Hello all, while I've been n the UK I've been looking through some of my old albums. The Republic of South Africa stamps below are in my very first album. [an SG Springback album] They were given to me by one of my teachers 63 years ago when I was eight. He had another full set including the 5s, 10s and £5 values.
Four of my teachers were collectors and were all very encouraging and helpful.

I am not a specialist for Transvaal stamps. But,when having a
look to S.G. and Michel,I am nearly sure, that the above stamps
are forgeries.According to Michel original stamps were overprinted
on stamps from worn plates,i.e.the letters are more or less
mutilated.Unofficial reprints always show perfect letters.
To make things even more complicated: also the overprints were
forged. But as most overprint-forgeries were applied on reprints,
it is not too difficult to find through.
There is not much financial loss,if they are forgeries,as even the
    originals are rather cheap.
The Vijf Pond mint is not priced in both catalogues, because
nearly all stamps on the market are forgeries.Genuinely used it
    is a quite expensive stamp.

I've always liked this set of 1932 Hungarian. I think because before I always had this per-conceived idea of Hungarian stamps as nothing more than topical CTOs celebrating Karl Marx and other communist ideals. After I happened on this set in a lot I got a few years ago I realized that there was almost a century's worth of interesting and fascinating stamps that I had never even considered.

I think I am choosing the 1966 Ireland...50th Anniversary of the Easter Rising set.
In part, it is because I remember buying it. I was on holiday at my uncle/aunts house in County Armagh and they drove me the short distance to the town of Monaghan and bought the set for me.
I was just 14 years old. And it was the Saturday of the 1966 World Cup (Football) Final so it was some weeks after the set was issued.
It was the first time I had a mint set of new issues so a big day in my collecting life.
Of course back in 1966, I was unaware of the importance of "unmounted mint" so I used hinges. The used stamps on this page were added later.
Prior to this issue, Ireland did not issue many commemorative stamps and usually only in sets of two...so a set of eight stamps was very unusual.

Hello Werner, You may be right, I have added some stamps from a different album. What is your impression about these? Some of these are later E.R.I. overprints.

    James:

I have a partial set of these Palestine definitives and have had a difficult time completing it. Some of these stamps are quite illusive, particularly Sc. 65, the 4m rose-red, Sc. 71, the 8m yellow-brown, and Sc. 79, 90m bister. Sc. 79 is even pricey.

Hello Don, I would like to see some of your collection, is there a possibility that we could see a scan or two?

    Regards, James.

    James,
let me first say again,I am no expert for Transvaal, but take my
knowledge just from the main catalogues.
In my opinion all stamps from the lower line are genuine.
The scans of the 2 1/2 Penny and the 3 Pence are somewhat
blurred, but I think they also show the typical features of genuine
    stamps.
The main criteria is,that the overprints show more or less damaged
letters and that letters and points are not on one line.
While the forged overprints show the three points and letters
in perfect allignment with the bottoms of the letters.
As all stamps are not worth much,it makes little sence to get
them expertised. The fees for expertising would exceed the
value of the genuine stamps by far.
    Regards,Werner

    James:

Here is my incomplete set of Palestine's 1927-1945 definitive issue. As mentioned above, I am having a difficult time completing it. Most of the stamps I add to my collection come out of circuit books and they rarely include Palestinian issues. There is a large regional stamp show next month that I plan to attend. I may find a couple of the missing issues there.

What I have was included in a WW auction lot that contained a lot of duplicates. Thus, I was able to put together the small selection of color varieties on page four of the scans. Hope the scan is capable of showing the different shades.
