Well charity stamps are not exactly a new idea. Please refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semi-postal Pakistan Post issued 0.1 million of such sheets but its hard to tell about their sales.
That's actually something I never took notice of until now. Well, I learned something new now! Semi-postal eh? Is semi-posting still being used actively these days?
I don't know about other countries but Pakistan issued its second (and last up till now) set of charity stamps in 2009 for the cause of Swat refugees. Postage value of sheet was 40 Rupees but it was sold at a price of 100 Rs.
Today I will be sharing a 1991 Pakistan Post Issue. To commemorate inauguration of a major highway in Pakistan by then Prime Minister Mr. Muhammad Nawaz Sharif (he is also prime minister these days on a 3rd term) Pakistan Post issued a stamp and a miniature sheet depicting Sher Shah Suri (1472 - 1545). He was a Muslim leader who ruled India and is famous for making Grand Trunk road which connected present day Afghanistan with India through Pakistan. Stamp had a denomination of 5 Rs and the miniature sheet had a price of 7 Rs. I am also attaching pictures of the first day covers.
I always found things like this to be very heartwarming. It proves that people do care about the misfortunes of others and are actively contributing to ease the pain and hardships of the victims. Thanks for sharing this!
This is amazing! I just realized I've never gotten my hands on any stamps from Pakistan and this makes me think there's a whole world of stamps I haven't seen so far. Does any service in Pakistan provide stamps internationally?
