In the eye of the beholder - what is best !!

Country making the best stamp !!

I think countries have gone through epochs of quality produced issues. The latter becomes obvious due to the evolving technology of art work to print.

Also the resuting historic importance depicted.on values.

Southern American Countries and China plus other Asian Countries have bloomed from dull sterotypes to tourists attractives.

Longstanding stalwarts I care to mention i.r.o. quality print, historic reflection was Monaco, Greece for a time 1950-80, Austria, Germany, France 1949-60, there may be many more for periods of time. Disregard the political issues and Egypt for one may interest many to collectors in time.

Belgian Congo issued beautiful art worked stamps of the best quality at the time which was not to good but a joy to study. French African Countries after the dull issues bloomed with quality historic print.

Today we see very interesting GB a US issues and similar of many other Countries today having the sense to produce good stamps after all it is a money spinner on the wane though.

If the commemoratives issued over here in England are self adhesive I don't buy them. Most of them are still gumed though. I consider self adhesives, sticky labels, not stamps. I never asked for them, do you know the Post Office never even asked me what I thought to self adhesives!!!

Not so much a country, more a type of image. These are engraved stamps, from Austria, the Faroes, Czechoslovakia and France.

  5. That's why I said Sweden, they seem to have runs on engraved stamps, usually in booklets

I typically concentrate on one country at a time when I buy stamps and a few countries that I really like are Thailand, Fiji, Pitcairn and Norfolk Islands. Thailand has some really beautiful exotic stamps with beautiful colors, including gold accents. Hong Kong, G.B. and Japan also comes to mind. To be honest, I like them all. I find that all stamps are beautiful in some way.

You mentioned South America... Paraguay has some really nice stamps, as does Brazil and then Columbia.

I am a proponent of Canadian stamps not just because I am a Canadian but because they always reflect Canadiana and they are almost always water soluble even as self-adhesives. So many countries produce stamps that have nothing to do with their culture, traditions, natural environment or important events. I became a collector because of my interest in the uniqueness of nations of the world and my desire to learn more about these nations. I also have a revulsion to non water-soluble postage as a destructive force to the sanctity of our hobby. My exceptions include those stamps that honour worldwide initiatives, organizations, and people that serve to better our world. The right type of postage stamps have been priceless teaching tools and incentives.

Sounds like most countries have some good qualities... I have pieces of a lot of different countries and wouldn't hesitate to collect them all again! Especially the ones that were FREE!!

I have some Colombia stamps and the details are so intricate and the colors are so precise and vibrant. I have quite a few animal and jungle scenes as well as one of the pope's visit.

Wow, this is a pretty neat stamp. It could almost be cropped and become an album cover lol. I'm not sure why anyone would waste that on a letter, regardless of what's inside (except maybe ten more of those stamps). I'll have to look into Swedish stamps some more.
