got 4 years worth of worldwide supplements posted to my Minkus Global albums. Now have 35 binders full of pages (most without any stamps on them). As I posted the new pages, I realized I'll never be posting any stamps in / on them - ever. Guess it's time to quit updating my albums with supplements containing countries I'll never collect from. Probably means I'll scale back my collecting efforts too, at least in the world-wide arena. It actually took me less than a week (maybe 20-24 hours) of time to git 'r done.
Hi Larry, I have to admire any collector that takes on the daunting task of global collecting. It's actually very hard for many to undertake knowing that any form of completeness is beyond their reach. Personally I collect only a handful of countries and I ended the pursuit of anything beyond the year 2000. If the mere adding of supplements takes that many hours imagine the hours filling those pages? All the while stamp issuing agencies continue to pump out more stamps in increasingly different formats. I certainly understand your thinking about putting an end to supplements.
More power to you! I can't imagine collecting worldwide...you'd need a staff and a fat wallet. I am down to collecting USA - Blackjack, large banknotes, Beacon Airmail, Newspapers & Periodicals and dabbling in Albania and Newfoundland. Way more than I can handle with those. I agree with HOCH, somewhere around 2000 the amount of junk and stickers pumped out got to be too much. I just read an article in STAMPS for 1956 lamenting the barrage of new issues...what would they think now?
Molokai the heads of those collectors of yesteryear would explode at the number of stamps now. It's interesting reading the complaints of collectors back then as you indicated in a vintage STAMPS magazine you have read.
Hello Hoch. & Molo. Both of you got me thinking that wasn't it about the year 2000 that many stamps became self-stick? Personally, that ended my interest in these later issues. Guess I'm just an old fashioned type collector, as I think of real Postage stamps being those that have to be licked... LOL!
Think I might try ordering just select W. European / Scandinavian country supplements, along with maybe Japan, Australia & New Zealand.
I'm finding it easier to collect mint US than to try and accumulate used US, and never mind the self-adhesive aspect of cleaning up the used stamps for album mounting.
