Mine are 2x Penny Blacks + 2x 2d Blues of 1840, and penny Reds of 1841 to 1850s all imperforate, also later Reds and Blues with perforations 1854 onwards. Penny Reds are easy to get and not expensive about 21 billion stamps were printed. Regards James
That would be the first stamps of the U.S. issued in 1847. I don't have any of the earlier provisional stamps.
Since I am still new to all the real details of stamp collecting I would have to think these US stamps are my oldest. I am not sure though because I have some others that look really old and I do have some, what appear to be old, Swedish stamps. Does anyone know about these US stamps?
Hello Randi, Nice stamps, here is the info.. Issue dates 1935 - 36 so they are 80 years old. Sorry typo above Mi: 337 should read 377 and Rhode Island 387 should read 382 Regards, James
Hello Randi, Show us an image of your Swedish stamps and I'll try to ID them. Babysitting all day gives me lots of time for research. Regards, James.
I do have some Philippines stamps issued around 1920's.I think those are the oldest stamps I got so far.
Thanks so much James!! Looking closely now I feel like an idiot because I can see the date on the stamp. For some reason I thought it represented something else. It would be so awesome if you could find some information about this Swedish stamps! I'm going to leave them as thumbnails so they don't take up so much space since I have quite a few I am curious about.
I just remembered that I do have a dozen or so penny reds from 1841. I don't really collect Great Britian, but I do have a somewhat scattered worldwide accumulation.
Have you discovered your interest (topic, country, etc) yet? If not, you might pick up some packets of stamps... depending on where you are at you might find them in hobby stores, on-line, local clubs. Also read up on the hobby: many libraries have books on collecting, and there are numerous on-line sources as well.
