I have to admit a certain stamp from British Guiana which sold for nearly $10 million last week doesn't look all that attractive.
Some high priced stamps are priced that way because of rarity not because the stamp looks attractive. IMO
Couldn't agree more zararina that the price of the British Guiana is due to rarity rather than appearance. If appearance was the criteria for price I can think of plenty of stamps that would be far, far more valuable!
It's indicative of an art style that was popular for a while. I didn't particular like the style, but in some instances the art was "interesting" if nothing else.
Is this an ugly stamp or not? http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/magic-roald-dahl-quentin-blake-favourties-characters-279634
Nice stamp Zee! I kind of like this one, reminds me of the old joke "tea break over, back on your 'eads".
It's okay. In my opinion, cartoon art is, perhaps, better suited to stamps than some other genres often seen. Paintings, watercolors, tapestries, etc., often don't transpose well on postage stamps because of the original art's size and the limited space available on stamps and the poor reproduction of original colors in the art. Original cartoons, however, are drawn with only a few bold colors for a limited space, usual one small frame, and can be moved to a stamp format easily. Don
