Does anyone know how to separate blocks that are stuck together front to back without destroying the original glue?
Just posted in another thread about a product called Stamp lift that we have over here in the UK there might be a similar available in the US Just did a quick ebay serch and came up with this lot http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=stamp lift&_sacat=See-All-Categories Hope it is of help
I have used Pure Citrus to remove the self adhesive stamps from envelopes. It leave the adhesive on the stamp. Spray it on the paper side and pull the stamp right off, no waiting. I bet it would work for you. I purchase it from Home Depot. Its about $4 a can. Any questions let me know. View attachment 355
You could also try Zippo fluid or Rononol Lighter fluid as it might work for you with out destroying the gum. Just be very careful using the above method as I believe the active ingredient is most likely alcohol and that means a water content. I have seen that method work quite succesfully on the newer self adhesive issues removing them from piece or cover. Good luck!
Okay, thanks everyone for this info, I will try probably the citrus, it sounds about right hopefully. I will let you all know how it works.
Boy, this is confusing, I am gong to try pure citrus, but I could not find the videos, those would have been cool if nothing else
Sorry Clyde, I have looked for the video that I seen a year or so ago. Seem I cannot find it. If I come across it, I will send it your way.
Okay, thanks, so far the ctrus seems to be working, at first the color seemed to be messed up, but now that they are dry the color seems to be natrual. Acetone (watermark detector) is bad with new stamps, it takes the color compltely out.
Does it leave the stamp sticky, or is the adhesive dry and manageable, similar to an older stamp with gum remaining?
After it dries, about an hour, the glue is intact and the natural color returns, just put the stamp between a piece of cotton material (old t-shirt works) and pat the excess oil off and lay it face up to dry, it will curl a little but that s taken care of by pressing it between the pages of a book.
On the self adhesive stamps that we have today, the pure citrus removes the stamp from the envelope with no problem, but leaves the adhesive on the stamp. I read several articles and they said to use talc powder. Have been doing this for the past 8-9 months with no problems.
Talc sounds interesting, I will have to try it, do you use the talc and the citrus or what. My problem is a little different, I have a bunch of new stamps that were in packets and stored in a very humid location and stuck together. During the separation process some of the stamps on the front layer picks up some color from the next layer basically devaluing both sets or more sets involved. Bad choice of storage but have to deal with it now.
