    150th anniversary of the first "long-distance" railway-line of Germany.
    The line ran from Leipzig to Dresden in Saxony.
    The stamps show the "Dresden-Railway Station" in Leipzig (20 Pfg.)
    and the "Leipzig-Railway Station" in Dresden (50 Pfg.).
    issued April 4th,1989; from a set of 3;

    Hochstrasse and DonSellos like this.

    The "Drachenfelsbahn" is the best known cog-wheel-rail in Germany.
    It goes up the Drachenfels,a mountain near Bonn.On top is the ruin of
    a medieval castle (top right of the stamp).It is one of the most visited tourist spots of the country.
    By the way the "Kölner Dom" (Cologne Cathedreal) is built by
    stones of quarries at the Drachenfels.
    When I was a youngster there was a major rail-desaster.Many people
    died when a train derailed at a steep part.Since then the steam
    engines were put out of service and were replaced by electric loks.
    Issued July 3rd,2008.
