Surely, that building is not on Nassau Street, NYC. Looks like it is a temporary building at the New York State Fair.

    Don,
This may only be tangentially related to stamps but this site shows photographs of New York City circa 1940 and has many of the buildings on Nassau St. any interested person can examine. https://1940s.nyc/map/photo/nynyma_rec0040_1_00064_0008#17.5/40.709285/-74.008045

A Nassau Street Herst cover with a patriotic cachet. I have at least one other similar cover, but I bought this one for the stamp collar. There have been a number of these stamp collar covers for sale on eBay and I finally bid enough to win one Rose Marsh, the addressee was fortunate enough to get one at no cost!

This cover is a little rough - and a foreign stamp (Ethiopia) - but a Nassau Street dealer I did not have in my collection. Apparently also a censor?

A scare cover, surely. Checking the ASDA list of Nassau Street dealers, I note that the following also are at 154 Nassau Street:

    Martin Band
    Percy Doane
    Esquire Stamps
    Trifone Stamps
    and, now, add Herman Hollander

Actually, Trifone is not on the ASDA list, but I have one of its covers.

Molokai, you need to get that Nassau Street building plan laid out. It just occurred to me, you should take a look at the Sanborn Fire Insurance maps for Nassau Street. They identify all occupants (businesses) at the various addresses, plus show a diagram of the space they occupy. The NYPL would surely have a set of them for the 1930s, and probably earlier and later too. Here's a link for them at the Library of Congress.

Speaking of ASDA... Apparently Newfie stamps were good for postage after Newfoundland joined up with Canada?

As far as I know, all Canada stamps (at least the ones in Cent-Dollar denomination),Newfoundland included, are still valid for postage.

No NS. I bought this cover because - never heard of New York Stamp Co, the tri-color Prexies and, mostly :shame: - it was only $2!

Truth be told - there were a lot of NYC stamp dealers NOT on Nassau Street. I have a few but just can't let myself go there until NS project is complete.

That's a nice cover alright. There's a New York City dealer, Marissa's Room, that has a lot of stamp dealer's covers. I think I got most of the NS ones from her stock, but lots of other dealers, and, I suppose, new NS ones from time to time.

Ezra Cole covers are a little HTF though he never had offices on Nassau Street. This is very plain vanilla cover but it is also a dealer-to-dealer. Pade originally worked from his home and eventually moved to downtown Denver. (It might have been the other way 'round --- calling the <StampDetective>!) In my journeys of the 1960s I just do not remember his shop. But, given the number of covers I see he must have had a robust mail order service!

Just when I said Ezra was hard-to-find.

I like this cover even though not NS.

    "Please cancel lightly."

That is an attractive cover. A person could build a collection around the Philatelic Mail, Cancel Lightly labels/printing on covers. The one on this cover is a new one to me.
