I was just wondering what stamp albums you guys use. I have the 3 volume US collection from Mystic and am very happy with it. I have a stockbook from lighthouse for my US plate blocks, strips, and other different items. I use the different stock pages for my foreign stamps and for now I just keep all of my covers in a shoe box
Sam, I use the exact same Mystic 3 US collection Albums. I have a couple of stockbooks for my foreign stamps, and I have some black vario 3 pocket sheets for my US Airmail plate block collection. I also put my covers in these vario 3 pocket sheets. I just purchased a Scotts Great Britian album that is in 2 ablums, and is complete, 1840-2010. I should be receiving that shortly.
Kris...where did you find the GB album? I've been wanting to get an album of some other country to keep me busy but haven't decided which 1 yet
Sam, It depends on what country you want to collect. The GB album I ordered it locally through www.nolastampshop.com. He made me a deal on it since he doesnt live far from me, dont have to pay for shipping plus I paid cash. That album on the website is about $280. Now if you want a Canada album, I researched that too, and www.boscastlesupplies.com out of Canada has a Harris complete album for about $100.
I do have 3 stamps album (I know it is the album for stamps Lol) and 2 photo albums. Yes, photo albums! I could see the stamps clearly with it as it is white.
I really need to get an album. I have never ever used one surprisingly enough. I just don't know enough about the quality and differences to drop that kind of cash on one. eg: Harris, Minkus, Kabe and so on. Also the supplements seem like a royal pain in the...well you know what I'm getting at. I been thinking of writing up my own pages and laying them out mysef but that seems like a mammoth task! i am toying with the idea of doing an American Classics album up to the early 1950' after WWII. (I know they arent worth much but I love the commems of that era and the engravings) and have absolutely NO idea where to even begin?? ~Jay Also, I use a binder and the lighthouse Vario super safe stock pages w/ Black Background, but you knew that already.
Jay, you might want to look into the Mystic album that Sam and I own. It has three binders, illistrations of all stamps, stamps are mounted to just one side of the sheet, you can purchase the BOB of sections that include airmail, postage due, Hawaii, Canal Zone, Officials, Confederate, Duck stamps, Special Delivery, etc. I own all of the BOB pages and love them all. I wish they made pages for the revenues and cut squares. lol The album I think is one of the best and the best part about it is the cost. All pages and 3 binders are $39. with shipping its about $54. You cant beat that. I wish they made albums for other countries, I would own them all. lol
No, I wish there was though. I called and asked that question, and I was told it was in the works to be made. But no date of when they would start producing it.
Dad had Mystic albums. 3 ring, brown/gold letters. He had 1 for regular issues, and 2 for all the commems, and 1 for the BOBs/Ducks. Total of 4. I recently got ahold of 4 new Scotts with slipcases. I was able to put all 4 Mystic albums into 3 of the larger Scotts. I haven't decided what I am doing with the 4th Scott yet. I could have moved all the stamps to the Scotts pages, but that would have been a huge move. So I just moved the Mystic pages to the Scott albums. I have several other Mystic albums, 2 Disney, 1 UN, 2 state quarters/stamps collection, and one Mystic FDC collection... Those are all secondary and not priority, so in Mystic they sit. There were a total of 12 Mystics before I reordered them. The Scotts are bigger, stronger, and green in color. The Mystic pages are a bit narrower, and thinner, but not much. I have several separate binders (Mystic) for FDCs and prized cover. Then I have 3 other 3 ring binders for misc cover, stamp sheets, and booklets. Then my 'run of the mill' cover is in several boxes, about shoebox size. It's a big mess.
Not yet. I was going to wait until after the show tomorrow and see what I might find. I'll be looking at albums and country lots then. I like alot of stamps from Canada, but don't have too many yet. I'm just hoping to find an album already with illustrated pages like my US album.
Any recommendations???? I was thinking of trying a country that maybe wouldn't be too hard, expensive, and maybe 1 that didn't have too many stamps.
Not off hand. I been thinking about Canada too. I found a different website that has the Harris Canada Album, complete up to 2010 for less than $90 with free shipping. The Harris has 2 albums and has 1200 black and white illustrations. Dont know if it illustrates all stamps. I am like you, I want an album that has illustrations not blank squares. I used this source myself. I have printed out thousands of pages of different countries from them. They say there are over 50,000 US and foreign pages. I mainly subscribed for the 6,500 Classic era pages. You can also print blank pages, etc. It costs $30 a year, but you can download everything for the future or pay a little more and get all on CD. I put the pages into Scott covers ( US Classic) and archival non-PVC 3 hole D-binders for Foreign classics. They are in acrobat reader PDF format. http://www.stampalbums.com/ if you are a US collector, they provide the supplements for free from 2001-2010. http://www.stampalbums.com/free_us.asp I use a nice archival cream paper after a test run on regular paper. Laser toner looks the bet, but a good quality inkjet does well. I hope you do your own inkjet refills if you want to do many pages. Although there isn't that much ink per page. Jim
