View attachment 2976 Came accross these while sorting out a recent lot i purchased. Thought i would share. Some Local G.B Issues
Local issues Guernsey-Alderney (Commodore shipping line) issued stamps to be used for the small parcel service between the islands from 1950 to 1968 with 2 sets over printed in 1971 The Hern Island and others are to raise money and are classed as Cinderellas/Fantasy
As far as i can work out, there is no value to them, i just thought they were some nice looking stamps.
Ive been to Herm island in Mid seventies it,s a tiny island with a few houses totally undeveloped, there was no roads on it only wide tracks but it did have beautifill beaches
I never looked at a map until now to locate Guernsey and Jersey....I guess I never realized they were so close to the French coast. My Sackett ancestors are from the Isle of Thanet area...there is speculation, though not proven, that the family name was originally of French origin, specifically, "Sachet" and that they came to the Isle of Thanet during the Norman Invasion...but this kind of discussion is for genealogy websites....
