This set is very high in the top ten of my "favourite stamps list".
Issued on May 22nd,1923 the set shows views from the capitals
of the Länder (states) of Austria.
It is a welfare issue.Sold at five times face value.So 160 Kronen costed 800 Kronen,or the 1000 Kronen was 5000 Kronen.
100 K.(+ 400 K.) Bregenz for Vorarlberg
120 K.(+ 480 K.) Salzburg (town) for Salzburg (Land)
160 K.(+ 640 K.) Eisenstadt for Burgenland

180 K.(+ 720 K.) Klagenfurt for Kärnten (Carinthia)
200 K.(+ 800 K.) Innsbruck for Tirol (Tyrol)
240 K.(+ 960 K.) Linz for Oberösterreich (UpperAustria)

400 K.(+ 1600 K.) Graz for Steiermark (Styria)
600 K.(+ 2400 K.) Stift Melk for Niederösterreich (Lower Austria)
At the time Niederösterreich had no own capital,but had her
admistrative centre in Wien (Vienna).Today the capital is Krems.
1000 K.(+ 4000 K.) Wien (Vienna). Vienna is smallest state of
Austria,but the one with the biggest population.

The stamps are rather small sized.I found only one US stamp of
the same size,shown for comparison:

 

This definitive set was issued from 1953 (left stamps) till
1959 (right stamps).The lower values up to 2´- S. were
reissued 1964/65 with a different watermark.

French colonial stamps are distinguishable different from
British ones.I like both of them !
