Don´t have a complete set of the Tasmania scenic views defintives set. 2 1/2 P. and 4 P. are from the 1899 set,the lower three from the 1902/03 issue with V & crown Wmk.
Another set from Austria: Reconstruction of Salzburg Cathedreal,issued Aug.6th,1948; (part I of 2) Wrong world: the "top-value" in this set of 8 is the 20+10 g stamp, followed by 30+15 g and 40+20 g.The higher values are rather cheap.
Werner....is the cancellation on the 1s value from a first day cover ? Or was it a special slogan cancel ?
I think it is no slogan-,but a scenic cancel. My best guess is,that it is a special cancellation for the (Salzbu)rger (Festsp)iele. One of the top cultural events in Europe. The line in smaller print might be (Salzbu)rg 1.What would be Salzburg´s head-post-office.
Another "modern classic" from Austria: Glückliche Kindheit (happy childhut), issued April 13th,1949. 40+10 g Easter, 60+20 g St.Nicholas Day (Dec.6th), 1 S + 25 g birthday, 1.40 S + 35 g Christmas;
Happy childhood ? They don,t look particularly happy to me...maybe they didnt get any stamps for their presents ???
issued Aug.17th,1949 to support the "Prisoners of War and Home-Comers Fund". 40+10 g seal of Duke Friedrich II,the strident; 60+15 g Austria´s coat of arms around 1450 1 S+25 g same around 1600 1.60 S+40 g.Austria´s present coat of arms
I have just some few stamps of the Chinese Republic (1912-1949). They are not so easy to come by or are to expensive for me. But I like the style of many of them. Reconstruction,issued June 21st,1941. Exists imperforated as well and as the first souvenir sheet of China.
Even more than the commemoratives,I like the definitves of China: issued Feb.21st,2 C. and 8 C.(blue-green) April 2st,1941. Don´t have singles but blocs of 4 only.
I do also. The design has excellent symmetry, that is they are nicely balanced in their appearance. The portrait in the center to immediately catch the eye, flanked by the value on both sides and the inscription centered on the bottom with national symbol and value in Chinese on the top. But then this series was printed by the American Bank Note Company, so they look more familiar to me. I especially like that 1/2 cent issue. That stamp, Sc. 449, may have been the last 1/2 cent value issued. I need to find a steady source of China stamps and collect some of the definitive series. If one were to get into overprints and surcharges, China would be a rich field, indeed. A good sized lot of definitives would be a good way to start. Don
