    I just don't like the way a pen cancel looks....I too look for eye appeal

    Does this constitute a 'pen cancel'?
    This is what I think of when that term is used, and I like this very much.

    I never really thought about it, but I just realized I might not like it if the stamp was off cover.

    generally, most of the pen cancels i have seen have been an "x" or some squiggly lines.

    here's an example of squiggly lines... not my stamp, just borrowing the pic...

    I actively search out pen cancels especially if they are the old "quill" style of course! (like yours shown above on cover) Also the manuscript cancels will command a premium (from me anyway)!

    The newer ones done by the dreaded Marker-Monkey aren't worth jack however. That's just a crime.
