I NEED this. How does one in the USA order one of these? Does anyone on here use such a device? Do you like it? http://www.stanleygibbons.com/stanleygibbons/view/content/detectamark
It would seem somewhere around about $118.00 U.S.D. That's a little pricey but I love that thing. Has anyone ever used one? here is what it looks like.
i bought one several years ago, and to be honest petrol on a black back ground works better, mine is sat on the side, if you want it i can post it to you, may be worth a few stamps in exchange, let me know
Jay, from what I have heard and read, its not good at detecting watermarks on the Washington/Franklin stamps. Just a heads up.
some other company makes 1 that costs around $300-$400. I've heard that it works better with the older US than the SG one. The last auction I went to one used sold for $110.
Nothing!!!!!!!! and sometimes that doesnt work either. Those washington/franklins can be a pain in the butt sometimes.....
indeed! I still have a pile I can't ID correctly yet. I'll get them but it'll take some doing. I guess there is a way to do it using a histogram with a scanner and there are detailed instructions on how to do it but I'll have to dig it up and post it as it may be very useful for some.
Here is one but you must email me for the other link (if that too is allowed) as it is on another forum but it is extremely helpful but not sure if I am allowed to post it on here or not.. http://www.germanstamps.net/index.php/site/watermark_extraction/ I apologize if that is a no-no if it is mods you may remove with no hard feelings. I suppose I could copy & paste and download all the pics 1 by 1 and re-assemble on here if all else fails.
Jay we are not monsters lol, anything that is stamp related, or useful is welcome, and i have never heard of using negative printing to show watermarks, it looks very useful, now i have to wait till i get home to try it of course so slightly gutted lol please show the other thread as well many thanks Steve
haha I meant no harm just some forums don't allow threads from other forums was all I meant. Here is the link; http://www.stampcommunity.org/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=15246&whichpage=2
i can see it does no harm, in fact i beleive we have picked up a new member from the german site, which is great for me as i have unanswered questions about some of my german collection, and i know steve r will be very interested in the pre 1945 stamps
too right, also while i think about it Jay when i post you the watermark dectector i will put in the stamps i would be very pleased if you could identify for me and send them back
