Hoping that Peter will tolerate a different use of this site, I start a thread about postal stationery. Postal stationery come in different forms: postcards, envelopes, aerogrammes (air-letters), lettercards, lettersheets, wrappers and maybe others. But all of them have one thing in common: they are all post-paid ! Usually a stamp is printed on them, but sometimes they show the imprint taxe percue or post paid. In a long collectors life many postal stationery come along and are stored away in different places and boxes. For most it is difficult to find any catalogues,so the value is not to important, because you simply cannot find out, what it is.However if you can,you mostly will find, that their value is pretty modest. To start, here a aerogramm from Ireland.
Hello Werner, Aerogrammes and air letters have been posted on this site before. Although I am not a collector I do have a large number in my UK collection from the days when I had penfriends around the world. I have only one Thai example here,of an unused pre-cancelled Thai aerogramme. Regards, James.
Werner: The Irish airletter has some attractive scenes printed on it's interior. Like James in his post above, and as you say, I am not a collector of these items, but they do come into my collections for various reasons. Below is a French airletter that I have collected for my Aircraft on Covers collection, an off-shoot of my Aircraft on Stamps collection. It is some what unusual as its franking looks like a real stamp, but is actually a stamp image printed onto the airletter. It is canceled with a nice matching pictorial cancel of a Concorde, plus a neatly struck circular date cancel. It is unaddressed and there is no message inside, strictly a philatelic item, but a suitable item for my collection. Don
Hello all. found these on my HDD The first from Radio Kiev in the Ukraine The second from a young lady from Zaporozhye in the Ukraine Regards, James.
Here's another postal card in my Aircraft on Covers collection. This one is a 1st day of issue that has been enhanced with a cinderella stamp showing an image of the aircraft that Pres. George Herbert Walker Bush flew as a young ensign during WW II. Don
And yet another. This one has three aircraft collecting points, the indica showing A Boeing 314 "Clipper" used on the Trans-Atlantic routes in the late 1930s, a well executed pictorial cancel showing a Curtiss Jenny, and the cartoon airplane added to the card somewhere along the line. Don
The young lady has very clear handwriting, especially for someone whose native language may not use the Roman alphabet. Don
Yes, Galina was a teacher. We were friends for many years, she married a proffessor and they had two girls, I used to send them T-shirts and Jeans as gifts, apparently it was difficult to obtain quality clothing in the Ukraine in the 80's. Galina used to send stamp-sets, photo's and photo-cards etc. Regards, James
Some Aerogrammes from Thailand: Not that nice handwriting, but I know the sender and the addressee quite well.
Thanks Werner! I didnt know that. Heres the other side as well... I always like to see handwritting in ink
Commemorative postcard: Emperor Franz Joseph´s diamond jubilee For the imprinted stamp of 5 Heller the design of the 30 H. of 1906 series was taken, picturing the emperor in 1848,when 18 years old.
Hello all, I would say this could be displayed in several themes, Aerogrammes, Aircraft on stamps and FDC's. This was a gift with a trade of stamps from Australia Regards, James.
