Hi Harry, I would not say the Toy is of no use , you would just need to use it on a regular basis. Check you perf in the catalogue then check against the perftronic. Use also a stamp with good perforation and see if the catalogue correlates with the perftronic. If not then the toy has a problem but check a few others first and the batteries of the perftronic. Like all things, practise makes perfect. Erich
Hi Erich, I understand that there is a learning curve attached to any new tool & have practiced w/ it using the perfectly perforated stamp supplied w/ the new device. The Scott Cat. claims it a 12.5 perf. but the Perfotronic2 reads 12.25 , time & time again! I'm not sure what you mean when mentioning batteries as all Perfotronic2's I have seen use an ac/dc adapter for power. I can find nowhere to insert batteries on the machine itself. However, I do really appreciate your feedback and perhaps I just received a 'lemon'. LOL! Regards, Harry
Hi Harry, Not to worry about battery or ac/dc power supply. The the perftronic reading 12.25 is probably correct as the catalogues round off. The proof of the pudding is however finding similar and also checking against the more conventional perf gauge. Comparing one stamp with another or many others is the essence of collecting, getting deep insight that most younger collectors overlook ( not meaning you ). That is a joy in itself finding differences. ( I will be having a speech at our stamp club next Tuesday on that very subject) Erich
