So while I was laid up yesterday, I managed to prop myself up and do page two of my album. Someone said that it would cost more to continue my theme of George V shades and boyo; were they right. The funds needed has cut into my 'Radley Savings' (curses), but it was worth it, does anyone disagree? View attachment 2092
Very nice indeed, you might want to find a new method of storage though if you intend to keep them on the cards. Some sort of archival sheet in a album might work. Something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-Extra-...Supplies_RL&hash=item415e725f10#ht_2551wt_754 Do you have a Coin shop near you? or even try WH Smiths
Very nice indeed What about a A4 Binder with those A4 Plastic Wallets that would keep them fresh and clean.
Yep thats the sort of thing I was talking about, you can get the pages in diffrent configerations and sizes (I know as I collect Banknotes LOL)
..and here was i thinking you liked my stockbook ! I am not going to spend any more cash on storeage until I have some more stamps, stamps first and foremost boys.
I would suggest stikking the stamps in the Stockbook/Album with their cards so you still have a reference. Now if the cards are too thick or may pose a problem later because once removed out of the stockbook and a stamp may fall around when stuck in the same spot. The strips expand to the items slotted in and when removed do not shrink again. This may be negligible so play as you see it, by inspection.
Someone said that it would cost more to continue my theme of George V shades and boyo; were they right. You have bagged the choice between a Radleys or a Lois Vuitton, pun intended. Get what you can on KGV, it need not be anything like a complete set. Mint never hinged that mostly well pocketed get and to deviate get what you fancy. May not always cost a lot but a targeted collection getting the missing ones in superb condition should be what you are looking for over time. Quality gets the sale, that does not mean you always need to pay a high price, this where prudence comes in, based on knowledge. So now you have discovered KGV costs more than the mediocre and now you must discover why. Of importance for mint is that you also inspect and take note of the gummed side of older stamps like the KGV issues. Modern stamps from 1960 that have blemishes like rust spots on mint, are good only for postage if valid or as découpaging your Radleys. You buy a Watch to keep for a long time, same goes for stamps.
very nice pages, i agree witn some of the above West, put together really well too to say you are just starting, a lot of thought have gone in to them. as for watches and time, i live in Manchester my sundial only works about 6 hours a year as that is the maximum sun we get here heh heh
I suppoose you affluent stamp collectors throw away you wristwatches when the battery is flat after a year or less or get tired of them, I keep mine renewing the batteries. I tended to keep my stamps. Sorry West for deviating from the thread.
A stamp Show or Stamp Exhibition is a pkace or occasion where stamps are shown, competitively and stamp traders buy and sell. But seeing that you like to yap a lot, what have you since learned about your new acquired stamps apart the motion of putting them in a stockbook ? Have you sorted out your colours yet? What is their perforation ? Are all the watermarks sideways? Have they been hinged ?
West when I was cataloging my Australian stamps, the only way I could say it was this one or that one was with perforations. Also water marks do help on finding what you have. these were those water marks. But it is something to watch for KJV are more then just stamps, I found out the hard way.
I bought mine from a respected dealer and they were already catalogued. I have some other stamps from a fayre (fair) I went to and I have not mounted them yet because I realise I do not know enough to do so. I have decided to get a Stanley Gibbons catalogue as I am informed that it is the most comprehensive and accurate. Thanks for the info though Tom, it will be very useful to me in the future. I would love to see your George V stamps.
