Do you agree that this is a 25 December 1989 cancellation? I've seen this type of date format before on non-U.S. stamps. Not sure what the last two digits equate to. If you agree, then I'll have to give this collection a more serious effort since I'll have Christmas covered. What say you?

Gunny I think you have a Christmas cancellation. I perused a couple of sites, one of which was the Cuban Postage Stamp store. This particular cancel seems to go from the mid 70's to the mid 80's after which a more traditional cancel seems to have been adopted. The European convention which Cuba uses is the date-month-year format which lends credence to the Christmas cancellation theory. The last two numbers confuses me, but could be as simple as a cancelling machine number or die number. I noted the same format on a couple of covers at the site I mentioned. This is a cover on the site with that format seeming to be a March 8th 1976 cancel with a number 20 attached at the end.
