Good Idea James... I do something similar with my topical collections (space, 50 State Flags, State birds, etc). Do you put any type of ID number beside or underneath them and index them in any type of database? I have a number of stock books that I use also... these for the different varieties of the definitive series. As any US collector knows, there are many different varieties of 2c Washingtons for example, scattered throughout the first 800 Scott numbers. Looking for perf rates, color, secret marks, grilles, etc every single time can be a daunting task and since there are so many of them in a mixture, I have made up an ID book with one of each variety and also a paragraph or two that tells the subtle differences between them. Now I go to the 2c Washington page (or 1c or 3c, etc) and look at the hints to tell which one I am holding. Topicals (different varieties of transportation stamps or the LOVE series as an example) are done similarly.
Hello SATX, I often fit interleave pages with annotations for the stamps on the facing page. These I set-out and print from Excel. I also have some hardback books that contain 20 fixed A4 pockets, similar to menu folders, in these I put [2 to 8 strip] pockets similar to the Vario sleeves but without the punched holes, I buy these in Thailand for 5 baht [15 us cents] each. My database, originally written in DB2 then re-written in Excel is sadly long neglected. If I ever find the time I will update it or switch to MS Access. This will probably be only for my themed collections. Regards, James.
WOW... I thought I was the only one old enough to know how to program in DB2... I switched to Rbase after some time, then Crystal Reports, dabbled in Access, then just stuck with the Excel because of the simplicity and flexibility. I thought I read that MS is doing away with the MS Access as well...
Hello all, I've found a few Cuban stamps for the Barcelona 1992 Olympic games An incomplete set. Issued: 1990-02-20 Regards, James.
Just to add to this serial. Olympic stamps are very inspirational. The last one in this post is in tribute of those who died in the olympic village in 1972.
I dont know what their theatre has to do with the olympics, but they made it commemorative of Munich Olympics
This is the version that we played in school back in Junior High & High School. I wasn't very good at it, to uncordinated.
Hello all, here are a couple of Iraq stamps depicting the Mexico Olympics. Date of issue: 1969-06-20 Regards, James.
This years Olympic games are still going on, Paraolympics that is. In that name, here is mini sheet dedicated to the history of OI.
