Oldest stamp in your collection?

    Sadly, my oldest stamp is an 1960 one, so I can't say I have such a wide range of stamps (talking of age). I wish I had older stamps, as they are more valuable, and they are generally very rare. I guess I'll just ask my grandma about old stamps and hope she'll give me some from her collection.

    Not all old stamps are rare, my 1841 is a British Penny Red which isn't expensive at all.

    My oldest stamp so far is from the 1920's. It is a Philippines stamp.

    Years ago I bought a 1949 US album at the Brimfield, MA antique show.
    The oldest stamp in there is a 1870-71 three cent; Scott #147. Although I never had it authenticated.

    1841. Wow! Where did you get it from? Even if it's not rare, that's a really old one!

    I own two Penny Blacks and a Tuppenny Blue and a Mulready letter sheet, all released by Great Britain in 1840. While the Penny Black catalogs about $200 used (my guesstimate), you should be able to find a dinged up one for $15-$30 like I did.

    I once bought a stockbook of U.S. stamps for less than face value at a show. There were about 10-15 Penny Red on one page with a few other used world stamps. My main objective was getting the postage at 90c on the dollar as well as getting the small stock book thrown in gratis.

    If it's the earliest stamp I have it's gotta be the G.B. penny black plate 1A. But that's not the most valuable of my "firsts". That honour goes to an early printing (no fuzziness) on a MNH 4 margin copy of New South Wales #1.
