It's an advertising stamp for a Germany brandy. Here are some other stamps that were part of an advertising campaign for that company. The best judge of what the value is would be to look online and see what someone is selling such an item for. The likelihood of finding a specialty catalog for advertising stamps is problematic. I found a site that had a couple of Asbach Uralt advertising stamps on it. Here it is: http://www.poster-stamps.de/en/55-spirits
Hello NicCris, It is not a stamp but a cinderella. Brandy lable. March 18, 1908 Hugo Asbach registered a trademark of his company with the Imperial Patent Office, he had coined a new word in German: Brandy. After the Treaty of Versailles provided for the designation Cognac only for French products, the new concept was in 1923 entrance into the German Wine Law. And today we think of the term brandy especially as a Brand: Asbach. Regards, James.
If anybody is interested there is a Cinderella stamp club based in London. Website: http://www.cinderellastampclub.org.uk/ Regards, James
That's interesting background info James. I had assumed that the Cinderella stamp was from the WWI era, your explanation of the 1923 law confirms this.
These are really colourful and unusual. I love to see the old stamps and often don't see them with so much colour. Great collection!
"Trolling the site tonight... I have had MANY experiences with Asbach... lived there for 5-1/2 years courtesy of "Uncle Sam's Boy Scouts" (US ARMY) and though I didn't have a large wish for Asbach, a lot of my troops did!!! So constantly around...
