    Hi West

Everybody makes mistakes it's all part of the fun. From what i can see from your stamps they look in rather fine condition. I woud be more tha happy to add them to my collection, if i had recieved them.

    Happy Hunting

Yeah - bought some today off of eBay. I've been kinda focused in on mint US plate blocks the last couple of months. Already had a rather extensive collection, but had added stuff from back in the 1920's, and filling in 'blanks' in the more recent time frame. I've got like 50 blanks spots to fill in between Scott# 630 & 3700.

Now that I've run out of spaces to fill in the plate block collection, it's time to start attacking the pre-1900's US bank note voids.

Well I hope your not going for plate blocks of banknotes or you'll need your own mint! ~ j/k

I am also working on the Banknotes both large and small. I what do you have for extras as I may have some to trade.

No - plt blk bank notes are more than a little out of my price range. I think they had inscription blocks in those days anyway.

    Right now, I'm looking for Scott #'s: 120, 121, 122, 166, 191, 208, 218. Then there are the $1 thru $5 Columbians.

West do what I do- Get a free photobucket account and upload your pictures there. All you have to do then is just copy & paste the [IMG/] string and it will post in any resolution you wish.
Here is the link to photobucket

Thanks boys, what I have discovered about this stamp collecting game is that buying and then aticipating mounting the stamps is where the pleasure comes, very similar to collecting Radley handbags in fact!!

I personally love the hunt or search and then the anticipation of it's arrival! What a rush.

I guess for those of us using albums with dedicated spaces, it's the challenge of the hunt, acquisition, and installing that missing piece (kinda like the last piece in the jigsaw puzzle). And then you turn to the next page, and there's another 3 or a dozen pieces to be located & acquired. As my plate block collection gets filled up, now I'll be forced to branch out into other areas of the philatelic realm.

For general collectors with albums and dedicated spaces, there's not much incentive to focus on collecting cancellation types (sock-on-the-nose, pre-cancels), shades of coloration, errors/freaks/oddities (EFO's), perforations, watermarks; too many other stamps to acquire. So now there are specialists (free-form pages or stock sheets; re-organize stamps wherever you want) and generalists and topical collectors (airmails, transportation, revenues, birds, flowers, castles, etc). Whatever floats your boat.

A nice little lot of KGV values, congratulations.
Your acquisition opens now more options, especially. the various colours like your handbags.
Colour of stamps can not always be asserted on web images.

You have row of 1-1/2d stamps and if you look carefully they are of different colours. You need to differentiate between two watermark, ceck if the watermarks you see on these (which should be easily visible looking at them on a black surface face down.
Looking at watermarks is like looking for a Radley - you what you are looking for.

In the S. Gibbons catalogue you get red-brown, chocolate-brown, chestnut and yellow brown as well as pictures of the two possible watermarks..

To distinguish the different colours you need good eyesight.
Now assuming the latter is no problem a S.G. colour chart is necessary to distinguish the colours.
Why, well some are more of value than others

Now you may understand how important a catalogue is and you do not even need a new one for information of the 1935's or so. Perhabs one of our UK residents can send you an old catalogue of 10 years back which would make collecting KGV much easier.

That is why collecting stamps is more fun than collecting handbags.

S.G. means Stanley Gibbons and as far as watermarks go take your time and enjoy what you have then when you absolutely NEED to know exactly what they are so to put them where they go in order of numbers (Scott, Stanley Gibbons, Micheal) then the watermarks will become relevant. Don't be scared off by all that stuff. It'll all come in god time. First things first- Acquire the stamps you like and THEM put them in order.

There is already order - acquired were first the KGV 1/2d strip and then the 1d, 1-1/2d and the 2d and all mint.
That is a good understanding of a starting point IMO.
Of course the next step my be more costly if it goes beyond 2d.
That is why a good study to gain reference to the catalogue will become worthwhile. Also take note of the detail on the 2d's card.
Study is done in your own time.
Being confronted to acquire further stamps, mostly is to the benefit of anothers time (Time the seller took to identify reflects paymen).

In my unbiased opinion a fabulous structured start for an adult new beginner, instead of collecting every stamp that comes along as I did when I started in the 50's.

That would include most of the collectors of over two decades ago.

I have all the numbers of these stamps and they are supposed to be in the right order though I would not know if they weren't. At the show I bought some more stamps but I havn't had time to put them in the album yet. I am delaying because I am thinking that thinking about putting them in is fun too. Does this make me a bit sad, or do you boys enjoy looking forward to sliding your stamps into the stockbook?
Maybe I should get out more or stick to Radleys :)
