Starting a new thread with portrait stamps of two gentlemen: Gottlieb Daimler and Carl Benz. Independent of each other,they built the first autos,driven by combustion- engines. In front of the lower stamp is the Benz-Patentwagen,built in 1885 and patented in 1886. Daimler´s car,the first on four wheels,was built one year later. Not much later in France and other countries similar vehicles were built. On the stamp Carl Benz is in the drivers seat,while Gottlieb Daimler had a chauffer. Daimler also built the first motor-cycle and the first motor-boat. Till today the Daimler-Benz A.G. (trademark-name Mercedes-Benz) is a very successful car-manufacturer. Upper stamps issued Feb.15th,1936 in Berlin at the "International Car- and Motorcycles Exhibition" (I.A.A.) and Feb.24th nationwide. Lower stamp,issued on Feb.16th,1939 was also sold at the I.A.A. of this year only.Free sale started from March 5th.
Hi there, this is not a limousine stamp per se, but I thought you might find this amusing. It took 3000 stamps to cover a Trabant 601 automobile, shown as it was parked in a Berlin Street on August 11, 2007. The coverage was made permanent with a special coat of paint by it s stamp dealer owner. Apparently it was claimed that there were enough stamps to actually post it (to where ?), but I find that claim doubtful !
The other two stamps of the set issued Feb,16th,1939: 12+8 Pfg. Autounion (foreground ?) and Mercedes racing cars. The two were dominating the racing world in the years before the war. Autounion today is Audi,part of the Volkswagen-group. 25+10 Pfg. KdF-Wagen,later called Volkswagen. Constructed by Ferdinand Porsche,the "beetle" became one of the most iconic cars ever. KdF = Kraft durch Freude. The KdF was a Nazi-organization to promote living-standards and recreational activities of all kinds for all Germans.
issued May 18th,1939; I could not find any information about this set.I can only guess,that it´s sale was restricted,because it is relatively expensive,compared to other issues of those years.
The only three other stamps of this subject issued in Germany till the end of the war: issued (from top) Sept.15th,1939,May 16th,1941 and May 1944 (no exact day known). Featured is cross-country driving,what came handy as training for driving in Russia.

Daimler´s and Benz´ vehicles again,75 Years motorcars, issued July 3rd,1961. A few days ago I recieved the annual report of Daimler. It is no longer Daimler-Benz,but I don´t know since when.However the company will be renamed again later this year: Mercedes-Benz. Last year Daimler produced about 2.8 millions cars,half a million less than in 2018.Sales were down by more than 10% but the profit increased by 50% ! Biggest market for Daimler (Mercedes) is China, followed by Germany and the US.

AvD,issued April 27th,1999 ADAC,issued May 8th,2003 The ADAC with more than 21 millions members is the number one in Germany.Critics claim it is more a business in the service sector,than a club.Shown is a service-car and a heliocopter for ambulance-flights and traffic-control. The AvD is a more "aristocratic"club,with only 200.000 members. The car shown is the "Maybach DSH Pullman-Transformation-Cabriolet" from 1936.A super-luxury-vehicle powered by a 12 cylinder engine. (Cabriolet = Convertible)

the last two of the same set: Mercedes 300 SL ,just a dream-car ! (today costs around one million Euros,top price was close to 3.5 millions.The original price was DM 29.000 equivalent to € 15.000) Borgward Isabella Coupé,possible the most elegant car built in Germany, ever.
VEB Automobilwerke Eisenach,Wartburg 311 Coupe.The most elegant car ever,produced in the DDR (GDR).It was the only car what was exported to western countries in considerable numbers,earning hard currency for the GDR. Opel Rekord: Opel was part of General Motors since 1929,when the Opel family sold out.In 1928 Opel was biggest car-producer in Germany and in 1937 in Europe (by numbers). After the war Opel had their best years in the 60th,70th and 80th.Due to missmanagement,GM ran down their most profitable car-roducing company.Finally,what was left of Opel was sold in 2017 to Stellantis. Stellantis is the holding of Fiat and Peugeot/Citroen with many brands of cars. Ford Taunus 17 MP3: nicknamed the "Badewanne" (bath-tub) stamps issued Oct.9th,2003;
