Starting a new thread with portrait stamps of two gentlemen: Gottlieb Daimler and Carl Benz. Independent of each other, they built the first autos, driven by combustion- engines. In front of the lower stamp is the Benz-Patentwagen,built in 1885 and patented in 1886. Daimler´s car,the first on four wheels, was built one year later. Not much later in France and other countries similar vehicles were built. On the stamp Carl Benz is in the drivers seat, while Gottlieb Daimler had a chauffer. Daimler also built the first motor-cycle and the first motor-boat. Till today the Daimler-Benz A.G. (trademark-name Mercedes-Benz) is a very successful car-manufacturer. Upper stamps issued Feb.15th,1936 in Berlin at the "International Car- and Motorcycles Exhibition" (I.A.A.) and Feb.24th nationwide. Lower stamp, issued on Feb.16th,1939 was also sold at the I.A.A. of this year only.Free sale started from March 5th.
