Hello all, thank you Werner for reminding me of this little known Spanish West African Colony. I think this is one of my "One stamp countries" See Werner's post in lets-see-some-fish #316 & #317 Regards, James.
The Candian Post Office has done a creditable job in issuing stamps with ships and boats, cars, trains, and aircraft as well. Like the U.S. and other countries, though, it has gone a little overboard with new issues in recent years. I have cut my Canada collection off in the 1970s. Don
There was a period in the 1990s when I needed something new to collect, so I went into my duplicate U.S. stamps and started a ships and boats topical collection. Here is page one. With the exception of this first page, a collection like this can be put together fairly inexpensively. A few of the stamps I bought from APS sales circuits, some I found at stamp shows, but most came from used duplicates I have accumulated over the years. Serous topical collectors, though, don't like used stamps for the most part, but at the risk of being blasphemous, it doesn't bother me to collect used stamps. The pages were drawn with my old page maker software AlbumPro. One of the nice things about make one's own pages, is that I can add or exclude any stamp I wish. It looks like I stopped this collection with 1970. I'll put up the other pages in sequence later. Don
Don Sellos makes me delete most US sailing-ship and boats, from my scanning reserve.Although I normally do not like much illustrated album pages, his self-made pages look really decent ! An addition: The two Cents of the Pilgrims-series,issued Dec.21st,1920 also shows a sailing-ship (on the left) and,of course,a landing-boat.
Thanks, Werner. Somehow I overlooked the two cent stamp. I like the landing boat on it. Someday I will have to redraw that page and add the two cent'er. Don
The last page of this mini-topical that I put together. I don't remember why I didn't continue it, probably lost interest and moved on to other collections. Don
On all three stamps of the Hugenotts-series,one can find a sailing ship. But a magnifier maybe needed. issued May 1st,1924
Yes, missed a couple more. I included only the 1c Walloon. Purists would have used the whole set. Just goes to show, my success as a topicalist is limited. Don
A miniature sheet from France. The Armada of the century...Armada du siecle..was a gathering of tall ships from around the world and was held in Rouen from July 9 to July 19,1999
