225th birth anniversary of the agronomist Albrecht Thaer. Thaer was a physician by profession,who aged 22,became the personal doctor of te Prince Elector Georg III of Han(n)over. Agronomy was the second interest of this universal scholar. As his patient was also King of England (George III),Thaer was often in Britain,where he studied the more advanced agricultural methods, what were used in England. In 1804 he moved to Prussia,called by King Friedrich Wilhelm III, to reform and enhance the agriculture. Till his death,he was the head of his own institute,lectured as a university professor and was the mastermind of food production reforms in Prussia. Stamp issued Feb.8th,1977 (from a set of 4). On May 2nd,2002,a stamp commemorating Thaer´s 250th birth anniversary was issed.
