Hello all, I've not visited this theme for a while. This GB - Jersey set of ancient coins. Date of issue:2011-08-30 Regards, James.
For a short time in the United States there were encased postage stamps used as coinage. They are quite rare these days...
Hello Molokai, there is an interesting web item regarding the use of "stamp coins" used during the American civil war. http://www.stamp-collecting-world.com/encasedpostagestamps.html Some years ago (1967?) I visited Italy and the Italian Lira was about 3500 to the GBP, coins were very scarce, If you bought anything you rarely got them as change, you may get a corrigated bus token, a band aid or a sweet (candy) or another low value item instead. Regards, James.
Nice thread, I came across today. I am a Numismatist too, but I never had time to improve my coin collection. So thought of collecting coins and currencies on stamps, but it is in the initial stage only. I would like to share the below Thailand coinage stamps on postcard from my Odd and Unusual stamps collection. The coin stamps are embossed and has one heart shaped stamp, which falls into my primary theme Odd and Unusual. Issued in 2010 for The 150th Anniversary of the Royal Thai Mint
Hello PdotK, your Thai Royal Mint set was issued in a 2x5 sheet and a minisheet as shown below. Date of issue: 2010-09-17 And the Symbol of Love pair also from a 2x5 set. Perforated with a "Buffalo Hand" or a Heart. Date of issue: 2014-02-07 Regards, James.
I know what you mean, difficult to spot a white background behind a white stamp, yours is the "Buffalo Hand" version, the Thai symbol for Love. Thumb out and two center fingers folded on palm. Regards, James.
That is a handsome coin. It make me want to start collecting coins again, but I know better. A person can't buy just one. Don
