Hello all, I have some genuine Cowrie Currency from Papua New Guinea and from Fiji. The shells of each are from different Cowrie species, different colours and patterns, Fiji used the Golden Cowrie as a symbol of wealth and power, they were strung and worn as necklaces. Regards. James
The last set showing coins,I can think of, as far as far as my collections are concerned. And I guess it is the longest of all shown here: Portuguese India, issued Dec.1st,1959
Hello Werner, Beautiful stamps but I think that you missed pasting three of your stamp images, the 60c, 80c and $1 values. Regards, James.
Hello all, Just found these on EBay, so not mine. Although I do have a few "coin" stamps, I'm not really a collector of this theme. Issued by Israel - 1948 Regards, James.
Hello all, it looks like I've started another theme collection. I've just bought this Chinese (Peoples Republic) set of stamps depicting ancient knife coins etc., just awaiting delivery. Date of issue: 1981-10-29 Regards, James.
Hello Group, I really enjoyed seeing all of the above stamps illustrating the coinage of so many exotic places.. I believe I would be remiss without adding my 2 Drachma. I collect Greek Ancient coins but not Greek stamps, per se. When I was made aware of 2 sets of Greek stamps commemorating their early coinage I figured they would make another nice framed display, as I already had 4 of these coins in my collection. The sets in the Scott catalogue are: 1959 (10 stamps) #'s 639-48, 10L-8.5D & a 1963 re-issue containing 9 stamps, Sc.750-58..Both sets are not that expensive w/ the earlier of the 2 MNH condition usually bringing 20-30$, the later 1963 set 4-6$. Unfortunately, when I was assembling my display I had to leave out the 1d (Sc. 752) due to design limitations. Anyway, hope you enjoy my efforts as much as I enjoyed your scans. Regards, Harry
Hallo James, just had a look to your chinese knife coins set. Did you notice that one 8 Fen stamp,T65 (8-3) is missing ?
Look like coins, but are actually stamps: The Scinde District Dawks. Issued in 1852 this were the first stamps in India. Three different types exist: II.embossed on white paper III.embossed in blue on white paper I.embossed on sealing-wax,as shown on the above stamp. Issued on July 1st,1852 the stamps were used till the issue of the first stamps of the East-India Company on Oct.1st,1854. Altough genuine letters exist with these stamps as late as the end of 1856. All three types are very to extremely expensive. Unused sealing-wax stamps belong to the greatest stamp rarities.
issued July 27th,1978,the stamp is from a set of 4 for museums of India.Shown are two Kushan-gold-coins,ca.100 - 200 AD.
