There are hundreds, thousands even, of stamp dealer websites out there. What I'd like to do is distill a list of dealer websites to a manageable list of the "Best" ones that the members here can refer to as a resource. I have a few criteria, and would welcome people offering more, of what we should consider when we distill our list down to the best ones. 1. Quality of inventory listed 2. Quantity of inventory listed 3. Fair pricing 4. Nicely, and originally designed 5. Updated frequently 6. Searchable inventory 7. Contact info easy to find Please recommend dealer websites you think should make our list!
Hi Pete, Great Idea as I am in the progress of just beginning a concise list of both my Br. Commonwealth & Icelandic collection. i.e. scott/SG #'s gum condition & price I paid. Having finished the same list for my small but quality coin collection. Please keep me in the loop. Regards, Harry
Just in case I wasn't clear, or wondering why posts are disappearing in this thread, my point here is to invite stamp collectors to nominate stamp dealer websites that they believe are of high quality for any number of different criteria. My point was not to invite stamp dealers to post solicitations in this thread. This site has a section for posting solicitations already, right here.
Hi Peter I was looking for a way of messaging you privately - but that seems to have disappeared (or I have forgotten how to do it) Anyway, I have two stores on Ebid, which I am actively trying to fill at present http://gb-stamp-store.ebid.net/ & http://world-stamp-store.ebid.net/ I would be very happy to be listed if you deem me suitable, but more importantly, would welcome some feedback on my pricing. I will also offer 10% discount to Stamp Exchange members for any orders over £1 (excluding postage) Just place an order and ask for invoice advising me of your Stamp Exchange name and I will do the rest Kind Regards David ( Bionicbelly ) Whooops just saw your post which crossed with mine - please delete of necessary
I do all my supply purchases from Subway Stamp Store they offer good service, good selection and prices. I highly recommend them.
Subway is a good source of stamp and coin supplies at reasonable prices, but think you could do better than them on stamp purchases.
Private messaging is still there, just 'enhanced' (when you see it you'll like it). Just click on the person's avatar (ie, click on my face, lol), and hit the 'Start a Conversation' link.
Hi Peter, I thought my store qualifies LOL But, bear in mind the buyer buys where it suits him. I think the buyer weighs up the item sought, where found and in the condition he/she would pay the appropriate price. I have bought from random stores but stores have a general problem. They do or can not always replace a specialist item. Listing common stamps must have appeal or they are not cost effective and must be in thousands if they have time or assistance. From the stores (not auctions) I have bought all were satifactory and counted on one hand. They would have liked to be in 'the best' category but all have some drawback - non to my mind are perfect even my own - but I try like all others do.
Here's my four nominees: First is F.v.H. Stamps in Vancouver, BC, Canada. http://www.fvhstamps.com Frank doesn't have the prettiest website, but he's has the best prices and best inventory of albums, catalogs and supplies in Canada. He also runs a pretty good weekly bid board. My second nominee is Weeda stamps in Victoria, BC, Canada. http://www.weeda.com Bev runs one of the best bid boards around, particularly for Canada and BNA material. She also runs a dutch auction a few times a year. The bid board is well set up and the entire auction process is on-line so you won't get outbid by an on-site bidder without a chance to counter-bid. My third nominee is Ian Kimmerly Stamps from Ottawa, ON, Canada. http://www.iankimmerly.com Ian has a dutch auction, on-line inventory and is also the official vendor for BNAPS publications. Finally, for the Canada/BNA specialist, there is the Saskatoon Stamp Centre. http://www.saskatoonstamp.com John has an amazing selection of rarer Canada and provinces stamps, including such things as die and plate proofs, and modern errors. No red boxes here.
Is this thread about Auctions or Stores online or both !? Or even off physical street addressed stores !? Or just where you buy best !?
Have only recently got back in to stamp collecting, but the two sites that I've dealt with so far have done me well. First is run by Mr. Steve Crippe titled GradedStamps.com and can be found at https://www.gradedstamps.com/index.php? As you might imagine, this is where I've picked up a few really nice PSE graded stamps. The second I am using to receive stamps on approval. It's a small family run business which is why I decided to give them a try. The name of the company is Wilton Stamp Company and can be found here.... http://wiltonstamp.com/. So far so good with this company. Later, Steven
Swan Philatelic Imports PO Box 1430 Lee's Summit, MO 64063 offer kilo mixtures at pretty good prices and often from hard to get places.
Peter, there is a comprehensive list of dealers on the "Stamp Yellow Pages" website I posted on the "Favorite links" thread. I welcome everyone to check it out. There is much more to be gleaned there than just dealers.
>>1. Quality of inventory listed<< The scale of quality of an item may be as diverse from one collector to another and of course the expensive item in superb condition few can afford, So the available poor quality sold item makes the seller happier than the happy 'to get one' buyer - till he sells.
It would be easier for you to have a scrupulous approach than the many that have had a certain mind set for decades. I myself sell single stamps with a wavey (flag) or killer cancel only if there is a flaw or it is scarce. Decades ago I already put the poor quality aside, if scarce - as a filler.
Philactica I would tend to agree and try to buy only "ideal" stamps for my collection. I am fully aware of what I like in a used stamp may not be everyone's cup of tea; or view point; you only have to look as some of the " VFU" on Ebay to realise that. However, it appears that collectors will buy the lower quality stamps for some reason as long as the price of the stamp is proportionate to the quality- ( afterall Beauty is in the eye of the beholder ). This I gleened from a study of the material most of the online sellers are actually selling ( not just offering ). At the end of the day, I and other sellers can only offer the material - no one is forced to buy it - and if they do not purchase this grade, then sellers would stop offering it. However, I do feel it is imperative to describe the stamp well and highlight any defects, which many do not and leave it to the buyer to study the scan or perhaps receive the stamp and feel very cheated.
The introductory pages of Gibbons and Scott show images of good quality stamps, Gibbons attempts to show grades of used. The scenario on quality of stamps is however beyond the scope of this thread,
