I wanted to find out has anyone ever seen one of these before? I know it is a forgery, but this is a very strange forgery. I have certified forgeries in the past, should I do it to this one also? Weiss cert the last ones I did. I even sold them for a good premium. I need all and any opinions. Thanks in advanced. If you can find the catalog for it would be nice. It may not exist yet.

Hello Emelda, this is out of my sphere of expertise, so I can only welcome you to the forum and ask where in the world are you based? and what do you collect please?.

    Regards, James.

    Hi, Emelda -

Bill Weiss as you perhaps already know, passed away in 2015. I don't know much about the St Louis provisionals but have never seen one for 'two cents' - only with numerals '5' '10' or '20' and the words 'post office' spelt out...

    Hi, Emelda

I am of the opinion that the picture you are showing predates the issues of the St. Louis provisionals and therefore must be considered a label. The clue to you should be the 1820 date on the front and annotation on the back. Molokai is entirely right about the denominations as you can see from this Siegel link:
    https://siegelauctions.com/enc/pdf/Bears-old.pdf

If you look at the historical events of 1820 with respect to Missouri you will see a lot happened that year. This is likely the reason for the creation of this label that resembles what years later would be the provisional stamps.

If it is contemporary to 1820 or a reprinting of some "statehood" label it is nevertheless interesting as I have never seen it before.

Howdy, <Hoch> - Good to see you! I poked around and found nothing. Tineye gives an image hit here - http://www.shopizle.com/IE/browse/7898/philately - but I've not found it. Your suggestion of a label is probably correct. Perhaps a later Cinderella?

Greetings Molokai, it's good to be able to check in and make a comment. I've been a bit distracted of late with other pursuits but now that fall is here and I'm a bit more inclined to stay home and play on the computer. Your guess about Emelda's item is as good as mine, a Cinderella is a possibility also.

Hi, Hoch. I always tend to get more interested in stamps and chess as Fall arrives. Summers are short here so have to make the most of them. Perhaps Don Sellos will make a reappearance soon. I did some treasure hunting with my grandsons a couple weeks ago and found a few old silver coins, tobacco tin from the 20s-30s - but no sack of double eagles. :(

My latest stamp interest is in the Newspaper & Periodicals. Assembled a good library of reference material. They are VERY complicated.

So many different niches in stamp collecting. I took a passing interest in Newspaper stamps myself, I got a couple of them, but moved on to other things. I did manage to attend a coin show this summer and found a few Barber's I was looking for. Always enjoy the hunt!

The hunt is perhaps the most interesting aspect of collecting! I also very much doing research, learning as much as I can about the item(s) in question. That may relate to my love of books. I now have close to 400 philately tomes (including perhaps 50 auction catalogues) and my want list is still very long. My biblio of U.S. stamp books is over 1000 and that doesn't include state or city postal history items.
