I have recently found a box of stamps being thrown out of an old rental property left behind. See the ungodly amout of flags Roosevelt and Lincolns I thought them to be fakes. But i kept them anyway. Ive decided they are real and ive got a new very old collection of stamps. Researching them for the $ I could make, ive decided I'm gonna start collecting them and just sale the duplicates. But this collection was in shambles. Mice had eaten parts of letters. I saved everything anyway. Any advice? I can't afford a hobby as I'm barley able to support wife and kids as is. How should I figure out whats what. Ive

    Hello Blu,

One way I've begun to organize, is to pick out whatever gives me the most enjoyment, perhaps a feeling of connection with the past or a beautifully designed and printed stamp. For a couple of dollars at my local Goodwill store, I picked up 3-ring binders, dividers with labels, clear plastic pages, heavy paper, photo albums, and frames. Then for couple more dollars, online I ordered a bag of "stamp hinges" to stick some items to a sheet of heavy paper. Not necessary, but I also ordered some "Lighthouse Vario sheets" for my very best specimins. They are black plastic pages for a 3-ring binder that have clear pockets of various sizes on both sides.

There are so many different ways to appreciate and learn from this hobby. I'm 65 now and so glad my parents encouraged my interest in stamps as a child. Have fun!

To figure out what you have, use the Swedish Tiger website here... https://www.theswedishtiger.com/us-stamp-values.html A lot of stamps look very similar and this site has the information needed to help you identify them. As for storing them, you can get a Stock Book or simply use small glassine envelopes that can be bought at most stamp supply stores online.
