I sometimes go to our public library and take out the Scotts catalogues.. so many volumes now..not like the old days!!! Ha ha ha!!!
Don't even get Ratio411 started.... Everyone should know that buying from places like Mystic or Kenmore, etc... Is the most expensive way possible to get stamps. This is not just my opinion, It's been stated many many may times on as many boards and forums.
I hadn't even thought about getting a Scotts Catalog from the library, that's a great idea. Especially considering the cost of a new one! Thanks!
I was just going to mention that. Some will have it in the reference section so you have to use it in the library, but some will let you check them out. Have a look at the inter-library loan system too, you might be surprised what they'll let you borrow.
Thanks for the heads up. Perhaps I'll scan my collection when it's all together and take it on my phone just in case I have to use it there. If all else fails, I can just pick up an older version at a cheaper price like was suggested earlier. Or even identify them on MysticStamps, write out the numbers, and take them to the library for the Scott's info.
This topic has good ideas and suggestions, so I'm bumping it up to the top again. Feel free to add to it, if you like.
I'm just starting out so I don't know how to Identify stamps at this time right now. Thanks for all the information. I have learned quite a bit since I have join this forum.
Best way to start identifying stamps is with some sort of stamp identifier reference. There are several online identifiers that are O.K. Armed with the information about which country the stamp comes from you can then look at the catalogue for value, year and number. http://www.iswsc.org/iswsc_ident.html http://www.stampmasteralbum.com/ForeignCountryIdentifier/ForeignCountriesIdentifier.htm http://www.theswedishtiger.com/ID.html http://www.stampfinderonline.com/identify.asp
Great Hoch. ... and you can ask Hoch for some identification help here as well as the other collectors.
Thanks for the information on Scotts catalogue. Sounds like that would be a really good buy to make sure I'm getting the right stamps. It would really help in setting up a business of buying and selling them.
