Hello Makanudo, Nice stamp, I have a set of four of these.

Unfortunately I have crashed my new HDD with in excess of 16,000 images on board. A few days ago we had a micro-powercut, TV went off for about a second, I had to re-boot my PC and thought that was all, when I went to access my HDD a message "you need to format this drive before use"
If I go into "Computer Management" I get
    upload_2016-12-5_12-17-59.png
and in "Administration Command Prompt" I get this.
    upload_2016-12-5_12-24-37.png
It is the first time that I've had this sort of problem and not sure what to do next. I would particulary like to recover my 16,000+ image files (part of my future database)

Has anyone out there had to recover a crashed drive before? I would be greatful for any help or suggestions.

    Regards, James.

    Hello James,

Thanks. I know you collect some Mongolia.

Sorry to hear about your computer hickup.
Have you tried to use a system restore point in order to fix this?
I am not really an advanced PC user, especially system management wise, but I had my share of computer trouble and learned couple of things.

    Best Regards

Hello Makanudo, It is not really a computer problem, that works fine. While I was in the UK I bought a Samsung 2Tb USB drive for £60 (72 Euros) in our very local shop, cheaper than the internet prices on that day. I think that the desktop PC may have been accessing the drive at the moment of the power cut, I think that the data headers may have been corrupted so that my PC and this laptop see a drive that requires formatting. I know that much of the files are still there even if they are not accessable because of corrupted headers. In computer management it still sees the drive with the "Partitions" (D,I & J) that I set when I originally formatted and partitioned the drive, "J" was where I saved a W10 recovery drive Image for my laptop.

    Regards, James.

PS. to truly clean a drive you have to write FF or 00 (Hex) to every Byte on the drive. That is why the police can catch the Paedophiles so easily, they think that formatting their drives removes all information, It does not, it only destroys the headers. What I need is some of that sophisticated software to recover the bulk of my data rather than re-scanning all the stamps when I return to the UK.

    James,

I didnt immediately get that its an external hard disk drive.
Have you tried it on some other computer?
You did buy it cheap 72 euros(is pound still that strong against euro?) is really a great buy. I dont think that here you can find 2Tb for under 100eur in store.
I hope you fix it soon.

My HDD is a Samsung (Branded) Maxtor M3 2 TB USB 3. The lowest internet price that I could find today is £68.99 (€ 81.64) inclusive of next day delivery (in the UK). The shop that I bought mine is 400 metres from my home, Currys PC World.

I downloaded a free recovery programme, It ran for 23 hours looking for only image files, once found, I asked it to save the images to another disk, it said "maximum of 100Mb, pay $79 to recover files"

I gave up and went to bed.

    Regards, James.

Hello all, nice stamp. The Australian racehorse Phar Lap's images have been used on many stamps in the 84 years since his death. Winner of 37 races from 51 starts.

I love this forum because I can see so many stamps that fit only one topic. Here are some racing stamps from me:

Hello all, this is a fairly recent addition to my UK collection, Racehorse Ledgends.
In fact I've not seen it in-the-flesh yet.
Part of my regular order for GB stamps and FDC'c.
