Here are a couple of unused Hitler stamps to look at. I was wondering are unused stamps such as these more worth than used stamps? If so, why?
This souvenir sheet was issued 1937, commemorating Hitler´s 48th birthday. However the sheet is in such a poor state, that the stamps only could be priced. If mint, never hinged they are about $ 5.-cat.value each. But I doubt, that they are mint never hinged.Hinged the cat.value is $ 1.50 each. But this is for stamps with a clean first hinge or a small hinge-trace only. If the gum is damaged or removed, the value of the stamps is minimal. From that you can see, that unused can differ in prices very much, depending, wether never hinged, hinged or without original gum. For these shown stamps, used stamps with a circular date cancel are slightly more expensive, than mint hinged stamps. The same is true for the majority of all german stamps, issued from 1919 til 1945. Some are used very much more expensive, than mint. The last issue of 1945 for the SA and SS is used extremely rare, because they were issued shortly before the capitulation.(Mint € 20.-,used € 2400.-). Also the 2.-,3.-,5.- RM-values of the Hitler-defintives are genuinely used very rare.So they are several times more expensive than mint ones,up to one hundred times more ! But beware: of all stamps, especially those with special commemorative cancels plenty of faked cancellations exist.
