Can I get advice here? I have a huge collection, lots that I collected when young and I just got a bunch from my great uncle, when I was 5 a boyfriend of my aunt gave me this book [IMG]

The pages are all falling apart, would I be better off removing the stamps and displaying in a new way or keep them in the book?

    They are all unhinged

Any help would be great! ;)

The mounts they are in are protecting the stamps yes? So cut around them carefully without taking them out and then slide stamp and mount into a nice stockbook.
Just my opinion, wait till other reply too.
    Welcomt club young man....

Hi Howard welcome to the forum, you can get a new GB album for them (Not cheap) or you could make your own album pages or use a stock book it all depends on how you feel about your collection.

Thanks everyone! I want to catalog them in a well made stockbook but don't know if the book adds any value, I got the Scott book for GB and some have very high catalog value some 20K +,

When I was a kid my mom took me to a stamp show, I brought the book, a large group of men took us into a back conference room and we're all going nuts about them, my mom got freaked out a little and we left. What sucks is that she let me take it to school and I see spots where there were stamps and no-longer anything there! Some missing are worth a ton so they probably fell out at school or are mixed in my collection. My wife and I are spending many hours going through it all.

I am going to take it to the local shop today and see what they recommend me to do to display them properly!

Does anyone here buy on eBay? They have great deals but I just hope that there are no fakes, seems like the Scott cat is extremely far off!

I buy on ebay and Delcamp you 99% of the stamps are genuine the ones you need to get clear pics of are any that are overprinted. The other thing to do of course is check the sellers feedback and if in doubt ask us here :)

thanks, yeah, I brought a small lot (only cost 10.00) but they all have the same cancel kinda strange they are all perfect cancels as well. I am going to post a couple pictures this weekend and see if I can get any thoughts about a couple IR official stamps I found.

Sounds like they are what is called CTO's Cancelled to Order and not postaly used. If your IR's have a post mark on them do check that the cancelation is over the IR overprint and not under it. You can check this with a magnifier, if it is under then the stamp is a forgery as the overprint (IR) was added after the cancelation

thanks for the info! Some ate mint I will check the cancel tonight! Some say army official and some government official. That is great advice thanks again! I'll report back after finding out of they are fake. We're they making fakes like this 27 years ago (when I received them)? I wouldn't doubt it:(

They were making fakes as soon as stamps were invented :)

What a great old album...I agree with others that have posted here...find a good stock book initially, take the stamps out of this threadbare album and place them in the stockbook. Later on you can choose whether you want to graduate to an album format or not.

It is not always possible to tell whether the cancel or the overprint is top due to the different inks. I've been told as many as 75% of overprints are fakes, but that don't stop you selling them as 'unauthenticated'. Some fakes are worth more than the original stamps. Check out Swan Stamps, he specializes in fakes.

    Ok,

I have been through most of the GB collection! What a task!

What is interesting to me is the official stamps, I have the 2012 Scott catalog, I have found all my official stamps listed except these three, it skips right over them, any thoughts on what to do next with these three?

I'm kinda stuck with Scott not listing them, here is what Scott has for the army officials,

Any thoughts, and of-course thanks in advance ;)
