I have this postcard from during WWII. It was mailed from a soldier stationed in England to a friend or relative here in my home town (Griffin, GA). I was wondering if anyone could tell me where in England it came from? Not sure if anything printed on the card tells you...but any help is appreciated;) View attachment 1600

Although I cant help you with its origin, I do say I like it. I love covers from WW2. I have a few myself. Thanks for sharing.

    Hi Sam,

You would need to to some research and find where was Army Base 1113.
During the war any mail sent was not to show origin of the article or possible trace to the Sender for security reasons.
That is why there is the censor marking.

The War was over by this time, why was it censored ?
Was it sent from a Naval Base in New York ?

World War II, or the Second World War (often abbreviated as WWII or WW2), was a global conflict that was underway by 1939 and ended in 1945.

The stamp was not put on upside down, it is an 'inverted stamp'. To stick a stamp on an envelope upside down is actually a criminal offense.

Dont think its a criminal offense, here in the US. I see it often with stamps upside down, sideways, torn, etc. The US government dont have the money or time to prosecute people for that....lol:D

I see. In England it is anyway. It is showing disrespect to the Monarchy. It is also considered a way of confusing the electronic cancellation system used by the GPO. If a stamp misses the cancellation and a person soaks it off and sticks it on another envelope this is a prosecuteable offense in England. Interesting how different cultures see the same act k-s, thank you for that.

It could I suppose. There are still four crimes in England that carry the death penalty. The sentence could still in theory be carried out without breaking the law. They are; Interference with the business of Her Majesty, Criminal acts against Her Majesty's Post, Criminal Acts against her Majesty's Docks and Treason. So you are correct, sort of.

To get to know more you would need reference book - Literature on the subject. Not all is in google.

Where does England come into the picture ?
The last time I looked it was a US stamp on an evelope to Berlin, Germany.

Maybe a German sympathiser (which I doubt) before he was executed:eek:
