I know the feeling! Got a couple of those too! Losses like this happen when I get a few stamps in a set, but not enough to draw the page. Then when I get a few more I can't find the ones I first had. Since I draw all of my own pages now, one response to this problem is to draw the page immediate and mount just the few stamps I have on it, put it in the album and I have it ready for additions as they come along. One problem with this solution is there are some sets that I can't really tell what the size of some the stamps are that I don't have. Then it's back to the stock book or card and hope I can find them in the future.

I have a dealer friend that lost some very valuable Great Britain "Victoria era" stamps. I think I ended up with them. I bought a box lot from him. the next year I went to the same show and saw him again. He said he lost a card with a dozen early British stamps that were special because they had Malta cancels on Great Britain stamps. I am not a cancel specialist so I'm sure if they were in the box I put any I need in my Great Britain collection and traded off the rest. I offered to send him photos of my Great Britain pages from the 1800's to see if I saved any but he just said don't worry about it and shook off the loss. It turns out the cancel can be worth much more than the stamp! Who would have guessed!

Well, I lost a straight-edged 1c 1901 commem stamp (SC #294) and later found it a few weeks later. Guess you never know what you might find.

One of the more annoying types of lost stamps are those godawful thin margins they usually have. In a postal sheet of 100, thirty-six stamps out of this sheet will have a margin of some kind, and it is very difficult to remove these pesky margins without tearing the stamp. This has happened to me before when I soak older stuff for my album (which will only go up to 1990). Fortunately, I was able to soak off a 10c self-adhesive christmas one (SC #1552) without it falling apart.
