Unfortunately, it has happened to me before. I remember being very upset (I generally lose stuff, important stuff). I searched all the shops and online shops for a new one, but haven't found another one like that. I'm not a lucky person. Has this ever happened to you before?
No, I haven't physically lost one, but I've lost a few in the soaking process. Mostly these have been the peel & stick types, but once I let some stamps soak too long and they got damaged coming out of the water.
Whenever I would have some stamps, I would put it on an album or stock book immediately. Some are placed on envelops to make sure I will not lost any stamp.
Well, I usually lick those kind of stamps. And it's such a shame that they got damaged. I bet they were beautiful stamps.
Yes, better to leave those stamps on covers. This reminds me of the covers I cut to get the stamps on it.
Nope, I haven't physically misplaced a stamp before -- knock on wood. I remember ruining one with too much liquid myself. Plus, I tore one that was old and very fragile. :/
Well, I messed a stamp up after soaking it to get it apart from another one. I didn't wait long enough to separate it. It was printed on very thin paper. That's as close as I have come to losing one.
That's close enough to me, visitor. Don't you hate it when that happens? Soaking can be quite dangerous for stamps; you have to be paying attention!!
I guess the acquired skill is in knowing exactly when to take the stamp out of the liquid before you have a disaster
Well, in my country we were still using postage in 2008, so I could say that Mum taught me how to do the soaking trick. Postage is awesome, hah, and people won't forget to write if we still used it.
I still use postage myself nowadays, but I've been using the peel and stick stamps for actual mail for a longggg time now. I definitely hope that the postal service doesn't completely go away anytime soon.
That would be completely damaging to the whole stamp collecting community. Let's hope this will not happen.
Nice Degree you got there. Well, at least you haven't lived the horror of losing a significant stamp.
I lose stamps all the time! My catalog is filled with "can't find" markings. Multiple moves and occasional cleaning of the stamp room compound the problem. However, like the parable of the lost coin (Luke 15: 8-10) there is great rejoicing when one or more "lost" stamps turns up, which they do sooner or later. The only stamps that I can remember "losing" due to the actions of others was a Canadian mint sheet that one of my children tore when she was very young. DON
