Sadly, yes. Some douchebags from my block used to call me a "nerd", and kept telling me that I had no social life for doing this. But times had changed, and I won't care about all those names anymore. I just can't stand people being such ignorants. What about you?
No, most people I encounter are curious about the hobby and a little bit intimidated by it. I try to express enthusiasm and positive aspects when I detail my fascination with the hobby.
I have not experienced that. Most of those who knows about my collection are quite interested and thinks it was a nice collection.
Well guys, I can say that you are lucky to have non-judging people that are interested in your hobby around you. Sadly, I cannot say that about my friends or neighbors.
A stamp collector meets them all - the admirers, the cynics and the criminals. Any stamp dealer at a stamp bourse can tell you about his browsing 'curstomer' LOL. The chap in awe finding what he was looking for or the chap degrading a fine copy and the guy who slips his found gem between his brochure pages. Rest assured, these types are part of life found all over and were around before the stamps LOL.
I get laughed at all the time for collecting stamps. I am secure enough that it doesn't really bother me. I think we should all be proud of our collections
Yes -- my boyfriend picks on me. He acts like I'm some sort of old lady because of my hobbies, which include stamp collecting, cutting coupons and cooking and baking. I don't think there is anything wrong with my hobbies, including stamp collecting, and I rather enjoy them. So nyah.
I might pick on you too if I knew you cut coupons LindaKay. ha ha.. That is cool though. You have to do whatever it is that you enjoy.
Dude, I save tons of money with my coupons! He picks on me, but he also loves the fact that we save at least 75% on most of our groceries and household items! We never pay more than just the tax for deodorant, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc. etc. Anyway, I guess it comes down to the fact that we all have different hobbies. I happen to like the more "boring" stuff like stamps and coupons. Sue me.
ha ha.. You remind me of the old lady used to sit next to me at work. She always had a daily update of what she saved. It wasn't bad though because she would just walk in with baskets full of free stuff for people. ha
Anyone that I have ever shown my small (very small) collection of stamps has told me it was awesome. Especially when I share it with people that have a keen interest in history.
Really? Well, I haven't met any people interested in history yet. Hopefully I will meet some nice people in the future.
My boyfriend is ridiculously obsessed with history, so when I told him I had gotten a hold of a small stamp collection he was ecstatic to say the least. He feels as if I am contributing to collecting small pieces of history of future generations. I'm sure if you find a history buff, they will be super interested in your collection.
Well, I'm interested in history pretty much, and I also love stamps. So yeah, I believe they go hand-in-hand (more or less).
