Those cancels are beautifully placed! Great page, I especially like the inclusion of the two pairs. Bob, you are a discriminating collector.

PS Is this the page you mentioned being on TSF? I'll have to look again. I didn't see it there.

Early airmail issues from French West Africa....AOF
This was a federation of eight countries and stamps were issued from 1944 to 1958.The capital was Dakar in Senegal.
I am trying to find stamps with cancellations from each of the eight countries...

It was issued in 1958 to commemorate the inauguration of Nouakchott, the new capital of Mauritania. It is described by Gibbons as Native chief and Musician.Unusual to see an airmail stamp without any reference to flight....unless a plane was flying over their tent:cat:

The first definitive series issued in 1945 for use in French West Africa..Designed by Edmond Dulac and printed by Thomas de la Rue and Company.Very different from earlier stamps of French Colonies but I find them very attractive.

I decide to do things a little differently.I have been experimenting with different colour pages as I was tired of using white paper.:chicken:
The purists might not like this but it is interesting seeing stamps with different colour backgrounds. This is a sample page with some assorted postmarks from Senegal.

Count me as one who approves of a little color change Anglobob! I think it's great. Perhaps some of the reticence to using colored paper was the fear of hinge mounted stamps getting some bleed from color transfer. In the case of having all the stamps in mounts there isn't any such concern. By the way I love these colony stamps you have been posting.
