http://www.stampexchange.com/gallery/image/334-img-20130621-155601-122-1/ Are these first issues of Denmark? Is there much cash value? What does the "1" mean in the cancellation on the top stamp?
I don't know about the catalog value but I can tell you something about the stamps. Yes, they are the first issue of Denmark and the "1" in the cancel means that it was canceled in Copenhagen.
Does only the first issue with 1 mean cancelled in Copenhagen?Does that go for any others? Wish I knew as much as you Hoch...
My understanding is that that bulls eye cancel with the numberal one is for Copenhagen, not just on the first issue.
The 1 is for the Copenhagen, Denmark Central or main Post office. Others Towns will each have their own number in the cancellers they used at that time. There are a few possibilities of value which can be determined more precise when handled because there are also legitimate reprints and different papers. Those shown are at best fillers as used as they are damaged and could have a cash value of $1.00. Ascertaining value of old stamps within a simplified catalogue, results in a myth.
Thanks. I suspected they would have more cash value than $1.00. I was offered $175.00 and a single 1892 mint landing of Columbus but I couldn't let them go. I have a few landing of Columbus but only 3 of the first issue Denmark. I'm selling my Canadian collection BC I have way too many. Although, I find it very difficult saying Goodbye to any of my stamps!
