so gents, i am hoping that you would help me design my own album pages for my Finland stamps so i can get them out of stockbooks and into mounts and on the completed pages once i have finally finished.

I have chosen the Finland album, as it is one that i can not buy in the same format i have with the other albums I already have.

the sheets below are very basic, i did start off with a lot of detail, but then felt i was becoming far too cluttered on the page, and possible hindering myself with too many facts and figures for each stamp.

if you would not mind looking at the pages i have below, and then from the list of different information i have available, let me know which facts if added would benifit not only myself, but any other collector who would like to use these pages for their own collections.

    Information Available
1/ Day, Month and Year of issue (at the mnoment i have just the year showing).
2/ Perf of each collection, some are just a micron different, but for the specialist collector this could be invalueable.
3/ No of each stamp issued
4/ Scotts and SG cat No's
    5/ Watermark differences where applicable.
6/ either cat val shown at time the sheet is prepared, or a box below or above each stamp where cat val can be inserted in pencil and updated as each new catalogue is printed.
7/ have spaces for both used and mint on the same page (at the moment i print 2 pages for each album, place them back to back in the plastic sheet binder)

i will look forward to your comments and input

    Steve

If I was looking for pages for my collection, the year and cat. # would be the only thing important to me. maybe years from now i will get more serious with my worldwide collecting and more info would be needed for me. I guess it just depends on the collector. Looks good to me tho Steve!!

How complete is your Finland collection Steve?

Thank you Sam for your input, i too have always thought that as well as the colour representation of the stamp on the page, a cat # would come in handy if trying to collate your collection from the album, rather than from the stamp and then a catalogue.

can i ask though, if you were putting the cat no to the stamp on the page, would you keep it basic, or would you like with your USA 2c, use the a,b,c, and so on, making the page a lot more concise, and of course the album would be a lot thicker as well?

    many thanks

    steve

for stamps of different variations but with the same cat. no. i would use a,b,c and so on. I'm guessing the cat. no. is in the middle of the square under the stamp? since we can't see any no.s in the pics.

There is no cat no# on the sheets i posted just stamp type which the first 8 pages for Finland are all definatives, and the different perfs and the year of issue.
as i said above i started with lots of info onm the pages but they started to look cluttered to me, which is why i asked what would be benificial.

For me the Year and catolog number would be all I want, but thats my opinion and you know how those are.....lol:eek:

i agree, the stamp in colour, and cat number and year should be all that is required, but would not knowing how many of each stamp issued, also tell you of the rarity of the stamp?

there is the stamp below, i can not find it in the SG world catalogue, this is a 2p grey perf 14 x 13, and only 100 were ever issued in 1889? it has made me go looking for more information, not that i have found it yet, or as to the value either.

my point being i find that interesting, or am i just being geeky and over enthusiastic lol

    Steve,
Looking in the Scott Catalog, I dont see a perf 14x13 for that stamp. I see a perf 11 and a perf 12 1/2. There is a listing for a 14x13 1/2 but thats for a 32p lake color. Hopefully this helps.

@Steve... Possibly you've seen some of my Finland pages at http://www.stampcollectingblog.com/mounting-stamp-collections-digitally.php

Re, what to put on pages... Catalog numbers are a double edged sword on album pages... They can change (rarely these days, but still possible). Not to mention the fact that there are several different catalogs people use (for example Finnish collectors have several specialized catalogs to choose from; and of course these contradict in catalog numbers)... And then there's the copyright issues too (especially if you you have plans to share the pages in any format).... But as personal notes, including catalog numbers is definitely useful.

Re, the 2p stamp on 14:13 perf... These are a real thing. AFAIK, no used copies are known. If I recall properly, Finnish Postal Museum has a sheet/part of sheet; some additional single copies are also known. These have been listed in all Finnish catalogs at least as long as I know (last 30 years or so)

i have looked at the easyalbum before, i will take another look, as MS word does not seem to capture the colour of the stamp, i am still in two minds about the cat no#

i will see what other comments i get

    many thanks
