What is your favorite fancy cancel? I like the ones with a skull, but my all time favorite was a pumpkin, used in October of course, from what I remember it was red or orange ink. I wish I bought it, but it was out of my price range. Anyone else????

The artwork on the 19th century cork cancels is pretty impressive to me. I think those are my favorites. I don't know why, but I'm more fascinated with foreign stamps than American stamps. There's just something different about them.

Yes, I got to agree with Micah13 about the New York Foreign mail cancels. I like all the geometric designs. My favorites have to include the Masonic symbol, the Maltese Cross and of course the skull.

    Here's some examples.
Smiley pumpkin was used in 1870's from Boston, Mass
Other pumpkin was used in 1869

I have one of the pumpkin cancels, but I haven't gotten my hands on any of the others. I was trying to look through my collection to see if I had any more of the cancels.

My very favorite would be the Lincoln mourning cancel. I have one on a #65 cover. When I get a chance to look for it I'll post.

That would be it. There's just something about that cancel I love. Its more than just a cancel on a piece of paper, its a statement.

I had never seen that cancel until you mentioned it. I think its a great cancel too. I'll be looking out for it in the future. If you have one, you are exceedingly lucky, as I have read that it is an extremely rare cancel.

It is a nice cancel although it almost cover all the details of the stamp. :D
