The kingdom of Laos issued stamps from 1951 till the
    communist/vietnamese takeover in 1975.
Original and of the highest quality most of these stamps
rival those of Austria,Sweden,CSR with ease.
    Here the first issues:
    L1.jpg L3.jpg L2.jpg
    First defintive issue,set of 12, Nov.13th,1951
(I show of the same design one stamp only)
    L4.jpg
    Definitives,set of 5,issued Aril,13th,1952
    L5.jpg
    Air-mails,set of 3,issued April 13th,1952
Both sets are the first designed by Marc Legauy.

    Here could follow the 1952 UPU-admission issue,but I
showed before as one of my favourite stamp-sets.
    L6.jpg
    postage due set 6+1,issued April 13,1952,10 $ 1953
    L7.jpg
    air-mail additional value,issued July19th,1952
    L8.jpg
    Definitive,set of 2,issued July 14th,1953

I have less than 100 Laos stamps but I quite like these Chess themed ones from 1984.

    Typing error: Marc Leguay !
Although the quality of Laotian stamps declined
after the monarchy was abolished,a good
number of such later issues are nevertheless
    pretty good.
    The chess-series,issued on April 13th,1984
    is surely one of those.
Here the top-value of the set:
    Ls2.jpg
The souvenir sheet, what goes with it:
    Schach2.jpg
Here you can see a ordinary cancellation from
Laos.A little bit faint, but rather difficult to find.
The stamps of the set show the printed cancel
applied to all cancelled to order stamps of Laos.

Very special for this issue and as far as I know
the only issue of Laos of that kind,is the
    following miniature-sheet:
    Schach1.jpg
Note: only six stamps in the sheet. One 2 Kip
    stamp is missing !

The earlier Laotian stamps show the French design influence.

You are right Don,there is French influence.
Most,if not all engraved stamps were printed
in the state imprint in Paris. And many of these
were engraved by French artists. Some of the
best by Jean Pheulpin, who won the highest
French award for stamp-artists in 1958 for
the elephant issue of Laos of that year.
Makanudo has shown two of these,I will
    show the set later.
However that is more the craftsman side.
In the artistic, the design-side Laos was
    blessed with two great masters,Marc
    Leguay and Chamnane Prisayane.Prisayane
    the more conventional designer,much closer
to the slightly steril french style, than Leguay.
    Leguay,a painter,who is for Laos,what Gaugin
    was for Tahiti.
    L14.jpg
    Kings Jubilee,set of 3,issued Mrach 4th,1954
The most expensive set of the kingdom-periode.
    L15.jpg L16.jpg L17.jpg L18.jpg L19.jpg
    Characters from the Ramajana,
    issued Oct.28th,1955
    L20.jpg
    Buddhas 2500th Birthday,set of 5,
    issued May 24th,1956.
However the inscription is not correct,as the
buddhist aera begins with the death of the
Buddha and not with his birth.

    Werner:

I remain impressed with the superb centering and uniformity of the perfs on your stamps. It is difficult for me to believe that they are random purchases and not individually and carefully selected for their condition. Perhaps, they were by the dealers that provided them.

It to me a while to understand, that one page in
the forums contains 20 "replies".Regardeless how
long each of them is.Long pages like this one, take
"eternities" to build up,if you have a slow connection.
Living in a Third-Wolrd-Country,I know about that !
