Ebay's Dramatic Push to Remove Collectibles Over the past few years, Ebay has taken steps to turn away sellers of collectibles, and focus solely on big brand retailers. With each new seller update, it's come to be expected that sellers of collectibles will see increased fees and new hurdles to overcome. Whether it be fee increases, being forced to accept PayPal, being charged final value fees on shipping costs, or new rules which make absolutely no sense when applied to collectibles, Ebay continues to make it clear they don't want collectible on their site anymore. However, with their latest announcement, once the sugar coating was cut through, even we were shocked by how far they've gone this time! If you're currently a seller on Ebay of stamps, postcards and other collectibles, it's likely that you're a Top Rated Seller, as long as you maintain a relatively high feedback rating. Two of the main benefits that Top Rate Sellers on Ebay enjoy is a boost in search results, and on average a 20% discount on final value fees. However, for collectible sellers that's all about to change! By May, almost every Top Rated Seller on Ebay in the collectible categories will lose their Top Rated Seller Status, and many will instantly see a fee increase of 20%! This is mainly due to the fact that all sellers on Ebay will be required to upload tracking information for at least 90% of their shipments to remain a Top Rate Seller! This means that if you sell a stamp or postcard, and send it in a plain envelope without tracking information you'll lose your Top Rated Status! Obviously this new requirement doesn't make any sense for collectibles, but that's the point - to force out collectibles, and collectible buyers and sellers like you. Even if you do spend enormous amounts of time and money to add tracking information to your shipments, you'll likely still lose your discount, because you'll also need to ensure that all orders are shipped out within one business day! Even if you're only a buyer of collectibles, these large cost increases will need to be passed along to yo you by the seller, so it's truly a grim situation for collectibles on Ebay.
A friend sent me this when I considered using ebay, I thought it might be of interest to the members on here. I was advised to use bidStart instead, though I have nothing to sell yet of course.Has anyone heard anything about this?
Nope but there again I stopped selling years back also nothing to stop sellers moving to ebid or delcampe both are very good sites that are improving dramaticly
I have taken note of something similar in a German Forum. Pity there is no reference to this speculation. There is indeed a lot of 'adjustments' on the cards in dealing with ebay. Many are not happy as a system of payment to ebay in envisaged for buyers and sellers would be paid once the transaction is approved by ebay. That is the way I understood it anyhow, refering to ebay.de other branches may be different. Removing collectibles may be a shot in the foot though. Members using ebay will have some options to think about.
Hello, We are indeed very happy to welcome them all Many eBay sellers are moving to our site, and we expect again a huge growth in the next few weeks/months, due to eBay policies. Kind regards, Seb Delcampe
I have been and had a look and it looks complicated but very expansive. I wonder how long it takes to get used to it from first visit. Any ideas members?
Not sure what you were looking at but starting prices on Delcampe and ebid are much more competative than ebay, as are many of the buy it now options
I have been very reluctant to put my address on the internet, being a single lady. I will do though, if Exchange members can assure me that delcampe is secure? I hope you all realise why this sort of thing makes me naturally nervous and do not take it as an afront to yourselves on here.
Never put you personal info on the net that you wish others not to see. The net is ultimately not secure. Criminals if they want can get their information if they dig. But out of a matter of course a Private message via conversations can help but is as said, also ultimately not secure. If someone is desperatly in need of information not offered voluntary it can be obtained but most mere mortals have nothing to hide just beware of the wackoes.
Ok I went to Delcampe, and looked around and got nowhere? Do you have to be a member to see what is offered?
Dear West, This time, I can only agree with "Philactica", he is right! Nowhere on the Internet (nor in real life!) you can be sure of 100% safety. BUT if you want to use the Internet, mostly to buy or sell things, you will always have to give your address to your correspondant. Otherwise, how could you receive what you bought ? Or will any buyer be confident and pay an anonymous seller ? So, sites like ours, or eBay, or..........OweWay... or Philactica(!), requires your address when you subscribe. It is your choice. On Delcampe, we have 680,000 users, with their addresses, all in one database. We comply with strong security and privacy guidelines... but no one will promise you 100% reliability, no one. Sebastien
Dear Tom, You have to be a registered member only if you want to browse more than 10 pages. This is up to 5,000 items for each category. Where are you locked ? Can we help you in any way ? Sebastien
StampExchange.com nor its members can guarantee anything about another website. In fact, I would suggest renting a post box even for the use of trading stamps among members here at the Stamp Exchange. As you know, this website is open to anyone who can read and write, and the only verification we do is confirming the email address.
I find this statement so important for stamptraders. When I left my parents's home my own post box caused no communication loss even when living here and there. Posting mail and the surety of 99% getting mail replies avoided much frustration. Sending Mail today is no different bar the cost. I pay NZ$145 per year what do you pay in the UK, USA or elswhere. I think my charges are a moneymaking racket and this convenience should be much cheaper and viewed rather as a service than a method of collecting 10000 x NZ$145 per year for its space - its just not relative. but also of no point to cry to you about.
Hi West i hope you are recovering well after your surgury, nice to see you active on the tthreads. as for address and security, i look at this way if i do noy wanty to reveal that information then i do not join where it has to be entered for access, but with a site that buys and sells, it would be needed to carry out these tasks for items you wish to purchase or sell? and people would only know you are a single female (and i kinow some very scary ones i would not mess with lol) if you make it publically known on the site you are entering the details to. take care Steve
