Any of you guys shop on eBay from the same seller often? I'm always looking on eBay at some of the different "hoard" lots but haven't purchased any stamps from there but from maybe 3 different sellers. Any recommendations would be appreciated! My favorite seller on eBay for now is grady1904...check him out...he always has something for reasonable prices
OK - I'm guessing that by 'hoard' lots, you're looking for bulk mixtures to pour thru? I just tried to post a single .jpg of one of my foriegn stockbook pages, but I guess it was too 'cluttered' and drove the .jpg file size beyond what this site will accommodate. If' you'll message me with your current e-mail, I'll post a couple of .jpg's of bulk foreign (Australia and Austria) to you. If we end up with the same understanding, then we can discuss to the best way to either display what I have to trade/sell, and the best way to handle it. I have way too many spares to sort them by catalog number or worry about the cat value. I'd almost just rather send you a selection by country, let you pick and choose what you want, and you can return the rest with exchange or payment. I'm thinking in the 5 cent range for the 'you choose' or maybe a '3 of mine for 1 of yours' if you have trading stock post-2000 for countries like W. Europe, NZ, Australia, Japan, Central or South America. .
??????????????????.........I'm guessing you said eBay is a rip off , but after that I have no idea...sorry
Sam just use Microsoft word and you get the translation as per below Steve "eBay is a rip off steering clear of it, just an opinion"
i will have a looksee lol i only sell when i need more mounts lol and you have my user name i believe!!
i know been so busy sorting through all i have traded in here and a few i bought have not had time to sort any for selling yet and i am running out of clear mounts
Yes. I have 2 that I can think of that I frequent often. I much prefer to use the stamp forums' auctions and listings though. rijo, Dr. Bob, CK Stamps are just a few on ebay. PS Stay VERY FAR AWAY from momen stamps! He does have some good stuff but he/they usually misrepresents items and way way way overprices his inventory. Weather it's intentional or not I can't say but he is a little shady in my book. Also William Lang has been mentioned as a contender although I have never had any bad experiences with his services. Here is an example of a good dealer (Dr.Bob): http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dr-Bob-US-S...3980?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=bin2c616ed31c Here is momen stamps: http://www.ebay.com/itm/momen-US-St...7331?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=bin2e9e247e23
Interesting comparison - thank you. Holly mackerel ! where does momen get his price from to justify $125 ? The plate block of 4 looks good at the price even though a bit off centre and the top perfs look dodgy, still too near full catalogue for only the stamps. Plus these are two different printings #565 & #695 !
Thanks guys for the help. I look on eBay all the time but haven't purchased from anyone but Steve L. once, some other seller once, and the rest from grady1904. I guess I like him because all his auctions start at $0.99, he only charges .35 for shipping, and he usually includes bonus stamps whenever multiple auctions are won. Most of his older issues are off-centered but can be had for a decent price. He is 1 of the few stamp sellers I've found on eBay that doesn't seem to be trying to get rich off people.
Sadly it is a disease of greed , too much money and lack of knowledge on all Continents excluding the South Pole LOL The crunsh comes when they are offered for sale again to be told what they are worth then. That then gives philately also the decline we presently see
Sam i recieved the stamps this morning, they are terrific, i have put them in the 2011 box just waiting for the album page updates in Jan-feb and i will have them in my album many thanks Steve
There appear to be two kinds of sellers on eBay. Those that want to establish the market and thereby maximize their own personal gain; they're the ones that establish the bid price at near catalog value and hope someone will bid at least that amount. The others will start at 0.01 or 0.99 USD and let the bidders fight over it. I've done maybe a 6 or 8 transactions with the latter type sellers in the past week, and seem to have been successful so far - still awaiting delivery of some items. Perhaps I've not ended up in a bidding war on too many of the items because they are so esoteric there's little interest. If a bidding 'war' starts, I loose interest when the bids get above the 50% of catalog value, because if I had to turn around and sell it the following week, I couldn't reasonably expect to get more than 30% unless it's a really unusual item.
Larry, when I do put items up, I try and do lots by the country, I put as many available duplicates from that country on to sheets so where possible the whole of the front of the stamp can be seen, I then work out the cost of the item with eBay and PayPal charges, that is entering the item, being paid and then the final payment to eBay again because it has sold, (when I started selling on there I did not realise you were also charged part of the bidding price so lost out on a few) Anyway back to eBay lol, I try and look for a penny a stamp no matter what era, age or condition of the stamps I have put up, and I use all proceeds I earn to enhance my collection, either clear mounts, or more bulk packs to sort and add to my collection. I will not say I do not get excited when 2-3 people start a little bidding war and the bids get quite high, because I do lol thinking of all the mounts I can buy, but I am always happy if it goes for the listed price shown with only 1 bidder! I agree with you about some people wanting nearly the catalogue value, which I find strange as any good collector knows, 99% of all stamps are not worth anything near the catalogue value. I do not collect stamps for profit, my main aim is to have a substantial collection for my my granddaughter is old enough to carry on with and that it keeps being passed down, rather than sold. Well that’s my thinking on eBay, I do not use it that often, and I have probably traded more stamps on here since I joined, that I have sold on eBay in the last year J
I have to admit that having linked into this web site (thru Facebook), I've never been more involved in stamp collecing over the last 20 years. Someday perhaps I'll get around to selling something on eBay. For the time being, I am content to score the occassional 'deal' like the 6c and 8c 'Nebraska overprints' from the 1920 prexie series, or a set of mint plate blocks of the authors in the Famous American series (1 set down, 6 to go), a couple of coil pairs, or upgrading my C1-C6 US airmails to mint specimens. I figured selling 'bulk' on eBay would necessitate a view of all stamps being offered, # of stamps, and an estimated catalog value. Maybe when the snow starts blowing the roads closed around here this winter, I'll hunker down and put some trial stock sheets together. Maybe offer them up here before trying eBay.

Sellers on ebay are very much at the mercy of the Luxemberg policies, which govern their actions in a very artificial way. My advice for what it is worth is to avoid ebay, it is just a self serving profit making endevour and has no actual interest in philately.
