A new thread away from the crowded Stamp Chat forum. I hope Bickerstonehall will not mind,if I poach in "his realm" ! In this set, issued June 10th,1969,the only orchid is shown on the 50 C.
I spent $9 in 1968 on a top-shelf prom orchid for my date. I wished I had my $9 back the next day. But here's another pretty orchid stamp:
Yes, it was and it would have - I think a VF-S Blackjack was around $9 at the time. I was fortunate to have a job with very good tips - made close to $100 a week salary & tips. But its ok. I heard she's been married and divorced x3 so I sort of lost my ticket to the Titanic.
The following set from Belize shows illustrations from the Reichenbachia,a four volume book about Orchids by Frederick Sander from 1880´s and 90´s.Sander,a German living in England, named his work after Heinrich Gustav Reichenbach, the most eminent orchid-authority of the 19th century. Most paintings were done by Henry George Moon from England. As far as Orchid-stamps are concerned, the reproductions from the Reichenbachia are my favourites. This set contains fourteen stamps and two souvenir sheets. I will show two values per post,so that they will not be to big. issued Dec.16th,1987 (part I of 7)
