Collecting stamps might lead you to drink......lol or drinking could lead you to stamp collecting?? lol Judging the types that do frequent Society meetings one can only wonder who got the better of the two evils !? Nonetheless, a beer and talking stamps somehow instils direction in moderation, afterall some can learn - not to drink too much
Lucky you for having the spare cash I am now more in control of my "stamp addiction". You're right, no use in starving myself if I won't have the energy to continue my collection LOL
I've had a few close calls, but no real paper cuts yet! The benefits definitely outweigh the risks when it comes to stamp collecting.
What close call ? You either cut yourself or you don't ! What benefits - who benefits with what risks or what risks benefits whom ? You probably hardly noticed the bad tasting gum you licked sending a letter benefiting another collector. Were you to lick thousands you'd probably die of poisoning. Enjoy the dangerous self-adhesives - wear leather gloves but do not collect stamps.
I honestly cant say I've had any close calls with stamp collecting. I over spend all the time but who doesn't? lol Did you ever drop a stamp in your drink? That'll make your day huh?
Very absobant stamps could be used to suck up illegal disolved drugs and then wash out again. A bit of a process to regain the drug but obviously worth the dosh. No need to try these days, the paper is far too hard and too thin.
Actually yes, Ive cut myself once, but it wasn't that bad. There's no way I'd consider it as being unhealthy just because of that though.
I wish that I could control my addiction to stamp collecting. Sometimes I think it;s more addictive that some drugs.
OK it is official, Stamps are not a danger to oneself. If I was working on my stamps I would not have cut my finger on my wife's Honey do's. So there it is a final, and the statement is Stamps are good for your health.
Charles was cousin, the 1st son to H.B. Golightly (My Uncle) & his wife Edith. He had epilepsy and unfortunately had an attack while fishing off a pier at Lake Livingston, drowning in the process. Sorry I have not posted this reply sooner but have had the devil of a time navigating this Web site. Are we related? Regards, Harry Golightly
It must have had a sharp edge to give you a paper cut. paper cuts are nasty. I would have thought a lot of people working in offices handling lots of paper are at risk from them. I never would have thought a philater would get a paper cut.
You can avoid paper cuts by only collecting perforated stamps - no straight edges = no paper cuts. How about laying out damp stamps to dry (when I was a kid) after removing them from their backing and literally trapping myself in a corner after using all the flat floor space in my room? I could have starved to death or something.
