You have a fascinating collection of covers, I never thought of all the permutations of covers that were possible. I greatly enjoyed the images, particularly the one recovered from the plane crash.....All I have are a massive collection of US FDCs and a very nice commemorative cover of the 50th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge from 1987. Thanks for sharing!
I have tons of this stuff, but relatively little scanned into my computer. Here's a few more covers I already had scanned. View attachment 1112 View attachment 1113 View attachment 1114 View attachment 1115
All great stuff! Nothing like classics on cover! Also ratio411 I have some en route to me that will be en route to you soon. I didn't forget about you!
That's a fine looking cover. The one with the blue bulls-eye/target cancel looks to be an #88 or #94.
It's either a 64 or 65. It's too old to be the 88 or 94. That particular stamp is very hard to distinguish 64 from 65 when it is so light in color. That one could either be light rose or pink. I would have to get it expertized to know for sure. The top one is definately the rose color. (pink is the rare color)
Oh man! your absolutely right! I wasn't even looking at the cancellation date when I was pondering that. I was looking at that whitish looking paper like the 88 is printed on! Good thing that wasn't a snake huh? I'd have gotten bit fo sho! lol
I enjoyed the historic covers most in this thread. and show one here that my be of interest. Late usage of KGVI values 1/2d to 3d addressed to Wilderness in the Cape Province, South Africa a rare destination. Postmarked PITCAIRN ISLAND 21 JUN 53, SG 1-5 . Definitive low values complete from ½d to 3d, stuck with thick brownish glue onto stationery envelope of the New Zealand Shipping Company as printed on backflap. Unique late usage and attractive despite the visible use of the glue, to a rather unusual destination. These definitive values would probably have been all that was available on the island at the time, as the QE2 defins were only issued in 1957 & all other commemoratives issues would have been withdrawn or used up by this time. With the extreme humidity on the Island, the original gum may have become useless & hence the use of additional glue to affix these stamps.
Beautiful covers everyone! Ratio I know it's off topic but THANK YOU for all your help with my collection. I only hope that I done you right also and PLEASE don't hesitate to ask me for something if you see anything that you need as I'll do my best! I'm still looking for that one series 1902 you need. Your a good friend. -Jeffrey
