Thank you for sharing this information! I only recently found out about cancels, new collector here, so I appreciate any information that is passed along.
Wow that's awesome! I didn't know about them. I also just recently found out that there will never be any stamps with the 9-11 tragedy on them. The USPS does not commemorate American or W.W. tragedies. A quote from one of my friends Here is more info on the subject for you- ~Jay
They did issue the semi postal issue of 2002 which showed ' ground zero' and the 3 fire fighters though....
A police stamp...wasn't there a US stamp in the 50's that's beautifully engraved that honors police officers? The Fuzz... I have a very old Constable's badge from Jersey Shore PA. that belonged to my Great Great Grand Father. I'm going to have it framed. I'll post a pic in a moment.
OK here is some neat stuff for ya! Back of ad postal card Front of ad postal card "Gonzo's Press Pass" Badge
On the post card (with the ties) is that a stamped stamp? That alone seems sort of unique (to me at least, not sure if it's common.) I love items with prices still listed on them, it really shows how the economy has changed and makes for good conversation pieces. Cool stuff, Jay! Also: heheh... Jersey Shore...
Yes it's called a "franked" postal card. That's where I'm from originally. Jersey Shore Pennsylvania NOT New Jersey. Have you ever seen Fear & loathing in Las Vegas? Well Hunter Thompson was "Gonzo". He used to work in J.S. PA. as a sports journalist.
